Interview by Robert Cavuoto
Symphonic Metal band Delain have risen from the ashes like a phoenix with new members and a new album, Dark Waters, due out February 10, 2023, via Napalm Records.
Delain breaks into new realms with their eagerly awaited album, Dark Waters. The band is the brainchild of keyboardist, founder, and main songwriter Martijn Westerholt and is joined by original guitarist Ronald Landa and original drummer Sander Zoer with new members bassist Ludovico Cioffi and powerhouse vocalist Diana Leah.
Dark Waters follows their chart-breaking 2020 release Apocalypse & Chill and continues with lush orchestral arrangements highlighted provide a sonic rollercoaster ride of catchy tunes with explosive elements – ranging from the pop-induced opening track “Hideaway Paradise” to blistering metal of “Invictus” with Diana’s fantastic voice, showcasing her incredible talent and musical sophistication. Songs like the soaring single “The Quest and the Curse” and “The Cold” lure fans in with a bombastic sound that skillfully combines orchestral melodies, epic heavy riffs, and marvelous vocal performances.
I had the pleasure of interviewing vocalist Diana Leah about her rise to fame by joining the ranks of Delain, how she nailed her audition, her technique for laying down vocal tracks on Dark Waters, and how she won over fans at her first major show at the Riverside Festival in, Switzerland!
