Ronnie James Dio is one of the greatest singers of our generation, and on July 10th, he would have turned 80 years old! His career spanned five decades and touched millions of fans with his music and live shows. Before going solo and releasing his debut album, Holy Diver, in 1983, Ronnie was in these two legendary bands, Rainbow and Black Sabbath.
Holy Diver was a platinum-certified smash and one of the late singer-songwriter’s most groundbreaking achievements. Together with Vivian Campbell [guitar], Vinny Appice [drums], and Jimmy Bain [bass], the band revolutionized metal music and helped bring it to the forefront on radio and MTV. Holy Diver a perfect album with no filler and contains two timeless metal classics, “Rainbow in The Dark” and the title track, “Holy Diver.” From 1983 to 2004, he continued to give fans music. He released nine additional solo albums before joining Heaven & Hell (aka Black Sabbath) to release The Devil You Know in 2009. His untimely passing came in 2010 and devastated fans around the world. He will always be in our hearts and most prominently remembered for the jewel in his metal crown, Holy Diver!
On July 8th, to celebrate Ronnie’s memory and his 80th birthday, Rhino will release a 4-CD Collection featuring remixed and remastered versions of Holy Diver by producer Joe Barresi, unreleased outtakes, and a recording of the band live in 1983 at Selland Arena in Fresno, CA during the Holy Diver Tour.
