Bonehunter is back with their fourth album, “Dark Blood Reincarnation System”, and what a great return! The Finnish devil metal trio delivers 40 minutes of excellent chaos with unexpected shades of melody and mind-blowing guitars. This album is fun, real fun, whether you like the genre or not.
This is probably the most mature album of the band, which is constantly evolving and reinventing, without losing its original sound. The contrast between the harsh vocals and the unpredicted moments of musicality is one of my favourite elements of “Dark Blood Reincarnation System”, as well as the tight yet never predictable pace.
The production is less raw and allow the listener to enjoy the melodic moments and overall the whole album. The songwriting has also improved. A special mention is due for the guitar work: Witch Ryder did an amazing job throughout the whole album. The band has reached a great balance between violence and tasteful and mature composition, delivering a great product overall. Abbath comes to mind, but Bonehunter goes further thanks to the melodic addition in their tunes.
“Black Magic M16” and “Gashadokuro” are definitely the highlights of the album, an album that I recommend to whoever is looking for something new and different to listen to.
Well done Bonehunter, you nailed it.
