Interview by Robert Cavuoto
Udo Dirkschneider and his powerhouse guitar-driven band U.D.O. will be releasing one of their strongest CDs to date entitled, Game Over, on October 22, via AFM Records.
The heavy-hitting, melodic metal band lead by legendary singer Udo Dirkschneider throws down the gauntlet by telling the world that we need to get our act together before we kill each other and our planet. Though not a political activist, Udo wants to spread his message on global warming, peace treaties, private arms control, and kids shooting kids with his music in a sonically perfect format. Game Over features Udo Dirkschneider (vocals), Andrey Smirnov (guitars), Fabian Dee Dammers (guitars), Tilen Hudrap (bass), Sven Dirkschneider (drums) and together deliver a furious performance preserving the integrity of their previous U.D.O. materials and the legacy of Accept. Game Over was created during the Covid-19 lockdown, and the band doubled down on their combination of tightly wound riffs, rhythmic fury, and pushed-to-the-edge vocals making this album everything you would expect from U.D.O.
I had the pleasure of speaking with the legendary singer, Udo Dirkschneider about the creation of Game Over, the importance of diversity in the band’s music while upholding the integrity of their previous work, when we can expect to see them playing in the U.S., and the reason why the German folk song in front of the legendary Accept song “Fast as a Shark” was included.
