Defenders of the Metal Faith – Carrying the Flame Forward
Metal-Rules.com presents Defenders of the Metal Faith – Carrying the Flame Forward. Each month we will spotlight a band that was formed in 2000 and after that has had a significant impact on the metal scene. This month’s spotlight, all the way from India…..
I recently discovered AGAINST EVIL from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. Honestly, this was the first band I had covered from India and they made such an impression on me that when this column was put together, I thought of them instantly! Their sophomore album, End of the Line, is getting a lot of positive press, including my review here at Metal-Rules! I recently had the chance to ask Shasank (Lead/Rhythm Guitar) a few questions for this column and he was thrilled at the chance to participate….
“We formed in 2014, but Siri (Vocals, Bass), Sravan (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) and myself (Shasank – Lead/Rhythm Guitar) have already been playing together in a cover band since 2010. We met Noble John (Drums) in 2014 and started writing original music. We all grew up listening to classic heavy metal bands from the 80’s such as Judas Priest, Accept, Iron Maiden, Dio and thrash bands such as Megadeth and Metallica. These are our main influences.”
2. Who are some of your current favorites?
“Mostly the same bands I mentioned above. They are still going strong decades later. Especially Judas Priest, Accept and Megadeth. We also love Grand Magus, Havok, Primal Fear, Firewind, Riot V, Lamb of God and many others.”
3. What impact do you want to have on metal?
“This is a tough one to answer! We don’t really want to make an impact or anything. We just want to do our own thing – making killer music and playing live shows wherever and whenever possible. We are very thankful to have an awesome fanbase who have always been super supportive. That’s what drives us to keep doing what we do best.”
“We are working on a very cool music video for one of the songs from “End of the Line” which we will release soon. We also have a bunch of shows booked in Europe during October-November this year. But with the current pandemic situation, we don’t know if that’s going to happen. We really hope it does though. We can’t wait to play the new songs live and meet all our European friends and fans after two long years!”
Let’s hope that not only can they play their new songs for their European friends but can even have the chance to play for their growing legions of fans here in North America. Do yourself a favor and find their most recent album, End of the Line. You’re welcome!
