Brazil’s thrash metal titans Nervosa are back with a bludgeoning new album titled PERPETUAL CHAOS. 2021 is already shaping up to be a stellar year for us metalheads, from what I have heard so far. It should be just the same for Nervosa.

Formed in 2010, PERPETUAL CHAOS is the band’s fourth full-length release. I believe I have their second album somewhere. From what I can recall, they were a bit more thrash back then. Still in the vein of what I call South American thrash, but even more thrash than anything. It has a bit more of a death/thrash roll to it. Not that it is a bad thing, mind you, just that it seems to more in the line of Sepultura style thrash.

With that said, it could be because three-quarters of the line-up has been replaced. Joining Amaral this time is Spanish vocalist Diva Satanica, Greek drummer Eleni Nota, and former Abbath bassist Mia Wallace. So now they are more of an International thrash band. It’s all good. The musicianship here is top-notch.

I will fail Nervosa because I did not get a chance to listen to their previous release. I can not make an accurate comparison to that album. But as always, it shouldn’t matter as PERPETUAL CHAOS stands on its own as a powerful and masterful slab of deathly Brazilian, er, International thrash metal.

PERPETUAL CHAOS is one of those albums that anyone who is into death or thrash metal will enjoy. And when listening, keep an ear out for a couple of guest appearances by Schimier from Destruction and Erik “A.K.” Knutson from Flotsam and Jetsam. They both lend their vocal talents on a couple of tracks. A solid album indeed!
