Interviewed by Robert Cavuoto
On October 9th, Sanctuary re-released their seminal album Into the Mirror Black to commemorate its 30th Anniversary and features original vocalist Warrel Dane [RIP]. The double CD edition was carefully remastered by Zeuss [Queensrÿche, Iced Earth, Overkill] to make it sound fuller and heavier without losing the original feel. The offering also includes three previously unreleased studio demos and an entire, newly mixed 10- track live album from 1990 in Reseda, CA, which was only partially released as a rare promo-EP.
Its gloomy atmospheric music, coupled with the band thought-provoking lyrics, brilliantly borderlines heavy metal and thrash with its stellar guitar work and expressive vocals. These are just a few of the reasons why this album has stood the test of time. This new release also includes many previously unpublished photos along with liner notes from guitarist Lenny Rutledge and bassist Jim Sheppard. Together they share memories, tour stories and give insight into the creation of this opus. Click here to order.
I had the pleasure of speaking to guitarist Lenny Rutledge about the 30th Anniversary release, how he miraculously came upon the original live recording from their 1990 Reseda show, and the exciting news that the band is currently working on their next studio album.
