Hellhammer the legendary underground metal titans from Switzerland are credited as being pioneers of extreme metal and the black metal genre, along with Venom and Bathory in the early 1980’s. Formed by Tom G Warrior and Martin Eric Ain (who went on to form Celtic Frost) ‘Apocalyptic Raids’ was originally released in 1984 and is a cult classic that is revered as a hugely influential release, that laid the blueprint for extreme metal as a whole. The band never performed live while active but in 2019 Tom G Warrior formed ‘Triumph Of Death’ as a tribute to his former band and has been performing their music at festivals globally since. This new deluxe reissue has done been in co-operation with Tom G Warrior and is dedicated to the memory of Martin Eric Ain.
Tom Gabriel Warrior: “It truly is a pleasure to see BMG Rights Management/Noise Records finally utilizing their rights to significant parts of Hellhammer’s early 1980s catalogue, and to know that they are doing this with utmost respect and the necessary understanding of the group’s eminence and spirit. And it is an honour for me to have been asked to participate in this reissue project by developing the concept and overseeing both the re-mastering process and art direction. I am deeply grateful for the efforts the label has invested into this project, and I know I speak for all former Hellhammer band members, deceased and alive, by stating how grateful we all feel that Hellhammer’s music is still relevant and in demand all of these many years later.”Concept and art direction by Tom G Warrior.
