After meeting up in a festival parking lot, ZZ Slop and Lord TerrifianT concluded that they needed to band together to form a group of heavy metal deviants to show a nod to the ways of old-school heavy metal. After a thorough scouring of the streets and back alleys of Brussels, TerrifianT’s line-up solidified in late 2018.

TERRIFIANT is the band’s debut full-length. The album comes off the heels of the highly praised 2-song 2019 demo. Musically, these guys have hit the nail squarely on the head. TerrifianT’s music here blends all the best nuances of NWOBHM and U.S. speed metal. It is a style that the band pulls off so well, they are sure to turn the heads of the Metal Gods from the days of old.

The guitars simply shred with both fury and harmony, and some ripping solos accompany the tracks. Bass and drums thump along at a blistering pace throughout most of the album. That is until the occasional melody intertwined here and there. If I had only one complaint, it would be the vocals. While Lord T’s delivery suits the band’s music almost entirely, there are a few moments when a critical listener may feel that he comes off a little too over the top. I will say, he can belt out high screams. In only a couple of spots on the disc, they tend to seem a little off tone. Overall, the vocals do sound pretty good.

With the surge of old-school sounding metal bands these days, it can be tough to weed through those that are worth listening to and those that are not. All of the groups going this route in the past couple of years are worth a listen or two. TerrifianT is undoubtedly one of those bands. Catchy as hell riffs and choruses that will leave marks on the psyche.
