Since the formation of Elvenking back in 1997 with an undying passion for heavy metal music and folklore, this Italian power-folk metal band has carved their way into the metal community and has become one of the most impressive and unique metal bands out there today.
“Their tenth masterpiece here is a concept album and is an adventurous journey into a mystic world of runes, magic and ancient powers far away from the visible.”

The band remarks about their new album: “For the first time in our career we’ve created a whole world that will accompany the songs. We were finally ready to write a story that could embrace and contain the essence of this band, the concept of our message and the atmospheres of our music. “Divination” is the first chapter of the “Reader of the Runes” story that will continue and will be developed in our next albums. In this first chapter, you will get to know the characters of the story, through the songs and the lyrics, through the runes and magic. “But not only the overwhelming concept makes READER OF THE RUNES – DIVINATION maybe most epic album ELVENKING has released to date.”

I have not fully listened to a full-length Elvenking album in a long, long time. I usually check out a track or two when there is a new release. Damn again! I have been engulfed in this album since I got it. It is also nice to get into the concept of the album or should I say, series of albums to come. It is always best that way.

From what I can pick up on, READER OF THE RUNES – DIVINATION is a bit more of a straightforward metal album. So, a bit heavier than what is the norm for Elvenking. But again, I am not as well versed on all their releases. Still, we have big melodies with an overall epic tone from track to track. There are the usual acoustic breaks and turndowns and yes, the Celtic folk flare they are best known for.

This is a fantastic album! I believe Elvenking has outdone themselves with this album. I could be wrong, but why fight it. For the super fans, feel free to let me know I am wrong here. For the rest of you, don’t be afraid to give Elvenking a listen. I say just start with this album. If you are a fan of great heavy metal or power metal, there is a great chance you already know what I am saying. If not, you should.
