Now we’re talking! The latest modern thrash masterpiece out on the Danish label Mighty Music is upon us. TO THE LIONS is the 3rd full-length offering by Denmark’s Anoxia and it is another great album. It really has been a good month of new releases.
Anoxia have been tearing up the European metal scene since the early 2000s. They have a style heavily influence by classic heavy metal and thrash. They inject a bit of a melodicism here and there but it is in just the right places to make each track just that more memorable.
TO THE LIONS is chaulked full of immense riffs, catchy choruses, and an overall hard-hitting metal which also at times could be heavy driving hard rock. Anoxia are all-around heavy metal powerhouse here. Nice breaks, ripping solos and great vocal delivery with many variations that only enhance the listener’s experience within what is really a massive musical landscape.
I love it when I can get into an album that truly hits all the levels of musical emotion. It didn’t take but a couple of rounds of TO THE LIONS for the music to really sink in and start to push me into the groove of what was flowing from the speakers. These guys are for fans of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer, Testament, In Flames and the likes thereof. And they can easily be ranked up there with them. Somewhere.
2019 has been a great year for metal releases. Anoxia’s TO THE LIONS only adds to a stellar year of releases. Great job guys! And for the rest of you, get on it!
