U.S. classic metal outfit Haunt is making 2019 the year of Haunt! MOSAIC VISION, the EP released in March seemed to have been a prelude to what is the release of their second full-length IF ICARUS COULD FLY only about six weeks to the later.
Their debut album BURST INTO FLAME was an instant hit to me. The fast-paced classic metal sound that was/is reminiscent to the likes of Fifth Angel, Cauldron, Pounder, Angel With, Night Demon, Ect. hit you like a ton of bricks as that entire album was filled with an infectious blend of riffs and melodies that were both classic and new at the same time.
With these two releases, once again I am doing a merge here as they are very similar in sound and variation. That and I just did this with another band as well.
MOSAIC VISION does tend to start off a bit on the basic side for the first two tracks prior to really picking up any real amount of steam and then poof! It’s over. Great opening tracks I must add with some great guitar work, they just do not do the ‘kick in the nuts’ like their debut album did to me. This is only a four track EP so what is one to expect anyhow? Well, it came across as almost as expected.
IF ICARUS COULD FLY does a bit of the same throughout only the opener is more of a speedy one. This is an album that one would presume would have followed their debut. Oh, technically, I suppose it has. Once again, there are some great melodies throughout in vein of some Murry/Smith harmonizing within the soloing.
Haunt are not letting up on the fact that they are going to be a force to reckon with in the genre of classic heavy metal. Is there an acronym for that these days? NWOCHM. Hmm, New Wave Of Classic Heavy Metal! Shit, works for me.
Anyways, metal heads. If you are listening out there, one thing you need to be listening to is the band Haunt, the U.S. version. No offense to the others out there, I just do not want you to get the wrong one first. Their sound yes is that of a classic metal sound but it is done so well and given that it is also done with a sense of modernism it does not sound like a total throwback.
So to sum things up for you all out there Haunt, Haunt, Haunt. MOASIC VISION and IF ICARUS COULD FLY are now on your to get list. Why? Watch the videos as these guys are pretty kick-ass! That’s why!
