Okay Flanders fans, here’s what you have been waiting for. Yep, the sophomore release by the world’s only “NEDAL” band Okilly Dokilly. Yes. The Simpsons very own Ned Flanders has a fan base out there that is paying homage to him in song.
When I first saw this come across my desk, I wasn’t sure I was going to cover it. I checked out a video on YouTube and thought, okay, cool for them, I’m out. But it wasn’t until I was actually asked to check it out; I took a listen to the album here and was pretty impressed.

The band formed in 2015 in Arizona and very quickly became a viral sensation with just a video and a four-track demo. This led the Neds to release their debut album HOWDILLY DOODILLY to much acclaim by critics all over the globe. The Simpsons does have quite the following and their fans have embraced this band as one of their own.
Musically, these guys fall into a few different sub-genres. They are a bit metal-core, melodic metal, punk, groove metal, death metal ect. There are some aspects of avant-garde metal as well. At first listen it reminded me of Dog Fashion Disco in a sense. Mainly by the way they meld so much genre defying sounds within a single track.

This disk has its moments of heaviness as well as moments of melodicism. All the while assaulting you senses in true hard core metal fashion. The use of Fanderisms lyrically probably makes up about 75% of the content from what I can tell. Musically, it is not a bad listen. As long as you are not a narrow minded metal head, you may just enjoy the sounds of Okilly Dokilly just as I have.

So do not shrug these guys off right away. Yes it a bit of a parody, a bit of comedy metal in a way, but overall an eclectic style of metal that may not top the charts, but is a worthy listen. And more than once I must add.
So get ready to bang those Neds! (That just doesn’t sound right!) Okilly Dokilly is coming to a town near you soon!
