I’ve said many times before that one of my goals is review every Hard Rock and Heavy Metal DVD in existence.    I’ve had this DVD for quite a while but have not reviewed until now.  It has been announced that  Michael Schenker is touring North America in April and May of 2019 so the timing to review this is perfect.  It’s an older DVD so this is just a quick overview of this concert package.  I actually published the stand-alone CD version of this release back on April 1st, 2013.  Coincidence? I think not!

This single DVD package comes with a nice big booklet with lots of photos, a note from Schenker and an essay (in German and English).  The concert, filmed in Tilburg, is a multi-camera affair playing to what looks like a big packed hall.  he show is very clear with a nice mix of shots and angels.  The sound quality is very decent, most DVD’s these days are as the sound is taken directly from the board.  The hour and 40 minute concert treats us to tracks from MSG, UFO and Scorpions. It is heavy on the nostalgia, virtually nothing from his solo albums and only a couple of tunes from his new (at the time) solo album.  All in all it is an energetic concert by the old rock dogs and White, a vocal handles all the material very well.  It amazes me that Schenker still doesn’t use a wireless system!   The concert is a treat for the fans.

There  are six bonus songs from the High Voltage Festival but most interesting to me was the 10 minute mini-feature called ‘Before The Show’.  Watching the international cast of characters interact as they prepare for the show, it is a nice fly on the wall moment.

I feel that as an artist Michael Schenker suffers from an identity crisis of sorts by having one of the most confusing catalogue of changing band names around. There are about six different versions of essentially the same thing, Schenker playing guitar with a revolving cast of characters. Temple Of Rock is as  good as any of his incarnations, although now he is touring as Michael Schenker Fest (!) supporting the RESURRECTION album.
