What could have, er, should have had a spot on my best of list for 2018 is Greece’s very own Sacral Rage. Formed in 2011, BEYOND CELESTIAL ECHOES is the bands sophomore release and what a great sounding album it is.

Sacral Rage is for the most part, easiest to describe as a thrash / speed metal band. Although that in itself is a broad generalization, there is so much more going on with this album than that. While holding true to that heaviness of a slightly technical thrash style, the U.S. speed metal sound overtakes the thrash to me. To each there own I suppose. And yet they also inject a whole lot more into their music in the way of some ‘70’s prog, space rock, Euro-power, and a bit of death metal as well.
At first spin, one can easily identify what bands have influenced this young and talented act. Vocally, Dimitris K. has to range and sound of King Diamond and James Rivera. With that being said, elements of Agent Steel, Helstar, Mercyful Fate, and Deadly Blessing shine through. Even musically you can hear the influences. And when it comes to the thrashier side of things, Watchtower and Annihilator are at the top of the heap.

I really wish I could have gotten to this one a bit earlier on. But I am glad it is in my player as this is a stellar release by a band that we will all be hearing more about in the near future. I recommend checking this one out.
