Best of 2018 – Celtic Bob

Spread the metal:

CELTIC BOB

Best of 2018

1. The Dead Daisies – Burn It Down
With out a doubt this was my most played album of 2018. Every song is a winner. I still find it odd that I like this band so much when back in the mid-90’s I hated Corabi’s vocals with a passion. To this day I cannot listen to that dreadful MC94 disc. Yet, I love this band.
2. Metal Church – Damned If You Do
Where do I begin? Although I loved the last couple of Metal Church albums, this one takes it to the next level. Absolutely amazing release. You need to buy the LP to fully appreciate this sonic masterpiece.
3. Red Dragon Cartel – Patina
An album I was looking forward to and it does not disappoint. Jake still got it and I am happy to say I hear a slight Badlands vibe in a few places. Killer LP that you need to check out.
4. Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators – Living The Dream
5. Judas Priest – Firepower
6. Lee Aaron – Diamond Baby Blues
7. Ryan Roxie – Imagine Your Reality
8. Ghost – Prequelle
9. Chris Caffery – The Jester’s Court
10. Dee Snider – For The Love Of Metal
11. Jizzy Pearl – All You Need Is Soul
12. Ace Frehley – Spaceman
13. Stryper – God Damn Evil
14. U.D.O. – Steel Factory
15. Billy F Gibbons – The Big Bad Blues
16. Stephen Pearcy – View To A Thrill
17. Ian Gillan & The Javelins
18. Loudness – Rise To Glory
19. Verni – Barricade
20. Venom – Storm The Gates

Best Metal DVD/Blu-Ray

Down n Outz – The Further Live Adventures OF
Technically it may not be Metal per se but it IS the side band of Joe Elliot (Def Leppard) and a couple of Quireboys. It’s a fun project that is enjoyable to listen to.

Best Live Album

KiLLeR DWaRfS – LiVE No GuFf
Hands down THE most played live disc of 2018.  Love the DWaRfS and have high hopes for a new studio later the year.
Honourable Mention:
Alice Cooper – Live From The Astroturf
It was a limited R.S.D. release on multiple formats and variants. It is a live performance of the remaining original Alice Cooper Band at a Record Shoppe a couple years ago. Excellent performance and shows they all still got the chops.

Best Metal Book

Guardian Of A Time Keeper by Darrell Millar
Not your typical Rock/Metal bio but plenty of band stories. It’s a collection of short stories about the KiLLeR DWaRfS drummer’s brushes with death over the years.

My Favorite Discovery of 2018

Verni – Barricade
Came late but really impressed me. I spent 2018 listening to great albums and while compiling this list I realized I missed out on DD Verni of Overkill’s album. Checked it out and immediately ordered the LP. Fantastic release.

Best Comeback of 2018

Dee Snider
Did Dee really go away? Musically he hasn’t made much of a mark since the Twisted days. With the release of ALL FOR METAL that changed. Some killer tunes on that album which prove with out a doubt that Dee is still an S.M.F. and here to stay.

Best Packaging

Metal Church – Damned If You Do
Beautiful double LP set. The blue marble/splatter vinyl looks amazing but most of all, it sounds fantastic. The best LP pressing I bought in 2018. This is how it’s done. Bands take note. Came with poster, lyric book and a cool OBI strip. Kudos to Metal Church and Rat Pak Records for showing the fans you give a fuck.

Anticipations for 2019

Looking forward to many great releases from Flotsam & Jetsam, Overkill, LA Guns, Queensryche, Steel Panther, Mike Tramp…and especially the OLD SCHOOL LP by Helix.
