Noose Rot’s THE CREEPING UNKNOWN EP came out in February of this year, and I’m kicking myself for not discovering it sooner. Better late than never though, right?

Featuring current members of Gatecreeper, Boson, Wolvhammer, and Skeletonwitch, Noose Rot cull inspiration from the likes of old school Coffins, Autopsy and Incantation in order to gift us with 4 glorious tomes of dank, decomposing, and doom heavy death metal. Buzzsaw distortion from low tuned riffs cut through a mix that’s swampier than a Louisiana summer, while the percussion marches in step like a funeral procession. And Vocalist Adam Clemans must’ve put his vocals through a garbage disposal to deliver this kind of deep, guttural slurring – dude totally sounds like a different animal compared to his performance on DEVOURING RADIANT LIGHT.

The resulting tunes don’t intend to break any new ground, but “Worship the Crypt” and “Bound in a Dark House” can hold their own against the likes of “Blasphemous Creation” or “Severed Survival” for sure. Judging from the professional commitments of the individual band members’ day jobs, I’d wager that THE CREEPING UNKNOWN was an off cycle outlet to cut loose and get fugly, but dammit…somebody please at least book Noose Rot for some festival appearances and/or lobby Sentient Ruin to persuade a proper full length. The world needs more death metal like this.
