One thing I have always wondered when reading the words Swedish and melodic death metal in the same sentence, is how the heck can all these bands be so good? Well, if that is a genre you enjoy, one cannot deny this.

Imperial Domain is a band that fall under this category. Originally forming in the ‘90’s, the band released two critically acclaimed albums in 1997 and again in 2000. They were touring around Europe through about 2005 when the band succumbed to over active members in other projects. Imperial Domain was put on hiatus as it would be for the next 10 or so years.

And now is the time of THE DELUGE. This album pulls you in really at the first listen. A very well produced album. It is chalked full of everything that makes melodic death metal so addictive. Well, for me at least. THE DELUGE incorporates it all. From guttural to clean vocals, it carries enough hooks and melodies to sink a ship all the while coming off heavy enough for the masses.

Hopefully Imperial Domain will stick around for a while this time. THE DELUGE is a great album. There is no reinvention of the wheel here, but this is an album that after a few listens I can honestly say stands on its own. Fans of Sentenced, Amorphis, Dark Tranquility, and Iron Maiden will truly enjoy this. And you will too.
