Be prepared for a new band with that old school vibe. Yes, it is starting to become a new wave of metal. More and more new bands are diving head first into the roots of traditional and classic heavy metal and coming up with some amazing material.
Although being a new band, these guys are no stranger to the metal scene. This is the brainchild of Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Gruesome, and Expulsion), and Alejandro Corredor (Nausea LA, live bassist for Vallenfyre). Along with guitarist Tom Draper (ex-Angel Witch, and Crowning Glory), Pounder was born if for nothing else but to pay homage to the NWOBHM and classic metal styles.
This 3 track 7” is a non-stop hell ride of ‘80’s style speed metal. The balls to the wall title track have all the makings for a timeless classic with its dueling guitars, soaring solos and a very catchy and memorable chorus. Next up is “Last Stand” which sees the tempo slowing maybe one notch or so but has Maiden-esqe riffs. Still plenty heavy though. This 7” is rounded out by yet another slower tempoed track “Come Alive” that harkens back to more of a Judas Priest or Riot sound from the day.
As the promo sheet states this is basically a teaser for the upcoming full-length in the works tentatively titled UNCIVILIZED. That sheet is right, as these three tracks are a bit of a tease. A tease of the range of genres Pounder is playing as well as a tease of the music they will be releasing. If the upcoming full-length is even half as good as what I have listened to here, it’s going to be a great album. Can’t wait!
