Interview with Diamond Head
Conducted by Robert Williams
NWOBHM legends Diamond Head are currently on the road in the US performing a short six-date trek centered around the band’s performance this weekend at the Rocklahoma festival. On this evening the band have loaded in their gear at The Lost Well in Austin, Texas and gathered in the band’s luxurious touring van for their Metal-Rules.com interview. (All band members present minus bassist Dean Ashton, I believe) Drummer Karl Wilcox sits behind the drivers seat with rhythm guitarist Andy “Abbs” Abberly riding shotgun. Both chime in at the start of the interview before receiving some taco plates through the driver’s side window. Vocalist Rasmus Bom Andersen, lead guitarist Brian Tatler and myself sit in the back. As Brian and I discuss the much heralded “White Album” the rest of the band is amused as they watch a large parade of bicyclists pedaling down the road around 10:30 pm. “Look at this guy, what the fuck? I didn’t know we were in Portland?” Karl Wilcox remarks. “Well, in Portland they do it naked.” I responded. (Grew up in Portland, Oregon. Had to point that out).
Brian Tatler and Rasmus fill us in on the status of the band’s upcoming as yet untitled new studio album, a few strolls down memory lane and discuss the band’s that influenced them (as they have in turn influenced so many in the metal community) Later that night, the band wowed the audience with hit after hit and perhaps the Austin metal crowd “wowed” the band right back singing along to every word, fists and horns pumping to the music in the sweat filled East Austin watering hole. “It’s Electric”? You bet your ass it is.
