Hair metal hard rockers Warrant are back again! It’s been six years since the band released their first album with ex-Lynch Mob singer Robert Mason (2011’s ROCKAHOLIC). As Celtic Bob intimates in his review of that record, Warrant have always been more than “the band that a hit with “Cherry Pie”. Although that song and “Heaven” spurred their huge album sales, Warrant never seemed to get the credit they deserved for being a solid hard rock band. Certainly since the unfortunate passing of Jani Lane, the band has been able to break out and show what they can do without relying on hits.
Enter LOUDER, HARDER, FASTER. It’s a record that should certainly cement Warrant’s place as a kick ass rock band. Indeed, this album picks up where ROCKAHOLIC left off and his filled with heavy rocking cuts that could possibly be the best of the band’s career. Sure, there are still a few ballads to be heard, but they are more thoughtful and soulful than you typically Bic-waving power ballad. Mason has settled in nicely behind the mic. While he’s a completely different vocalist than Jani Lane was, he’s arguably got a more powerful, rough n’ ready style that fits perfectly with the heavier music, such as the swampy “Music Man” and the cruisin’ crime tale, “Only Broken Heart” (two of the album’s best songs).
If you liked the later-era Warrant albums, this one is mandatory listening for sure. If you’re a hard rock fan that wrote Warrant off simply based on their early career, LOUDER HARDER FASTER is worth checking out – this is high quality heavy hard rock that rivals that best around.
