Sweden’s Adrenaline Rush blasted out of the gates in 2014 with their self-titled debut, a set of energetic hard rocking songs that were squarely marketed around former European pop star Tave Wanning. Her image was on the cover and her vocals mixed to the forefront – it was definitely “The Wanning Show” as it were, but the album worked because the songs were so catchy.
Three years and a few line up changes later, Wanning & co. are back with their sophomore album, SOUL SURVIVOR. It is again heavily marketed on Wanning as she graces the cover for a second time but once inside the band gets down to kicking some musical ass. Although the band backing her may be “faceless”, they provide the perfect musical accompaniment to her strong voice. Born from the ashes of the ‘80s, Adrenalin Rush’s music sits firmly in the slightly sleazy side of hard rock, hitting all of the touchstones you’d imagine (I named them in my 2014 album review; not going to do so again here). If you love that style, then you’ll find hard rockers like “Stand My Ground” and “Shock Me” will be musical manna for you; this band knows how to write a great song, for sure.
Say what you will about a pop-star “going metal”, but Adrenaline Rush now has 2 excellent albums to their name and that’s no fluke; this band is for real. Now they need to get out on a big-time tour and promote themselves as their music deserves a chance to be heard.
