Forming in 2011 in Samara, (Russia), God Syndrome is an extreme Melodic Death Metal band. Their recent release, Controverse, is a hard hitting album full of some great riffs and devastating melodies.
The first track sets the tone for what is to come with a nice instrumental that includes some pretty rad industrial elements. I was hoping for some more of this as it reminded of early Fear Factory. If you are a fan of Melodic Death Metal you will find a lot to like about God Syndrome’s latest offering.
While most of the tracks are your standard paint of the numbers Melodic Death Metal, there are some tracks that really stand out. “Dark Sand” has some great Carcass influenced riffs, “The Last Option”, showcases some great soloing and “Hangman of Atlantis’, if a perfect closer for the album.
Overall, the band is fantastic in the style and genre they play in. The guttural vocals are sick. The guitars and melodies laid down by the group are solid. They don’t really try anything different or new here, but is still worth checking out especially if you are a fan of the genre.
