When you think about it, Grindmother is kind of like a grindcore Justin Bieber.

Hear me out…

Grindmother, also the 67-year-old mom to guitarist Rainforest of Corrupt Leaders and Blackout PR fame, made her debut vocal appearance on Corrupt Leaders’ maniacally ferocious and appropriately titled GRINDMOTHER EP. As tends to happen with all pop sensations, a video of her vocal sessions for “Black Cloud” quickly went viral and attracted all kinds of mainstream press. Belting out screams harsh enough to make Kevin Sharp blush, it made the entertainment news circuit and was even enough to even elicit a social media “WTF” from Ozzy himself. The reaction was enough to inspire an EP’s worth of Grindmother material, the just released AGE OF DESTRUCTION.

It’d be easy to dismiss AGE OF DESTRUCTION as novelty shtick if it weren’t really good. Musically the album is exactly what you’d expect from the mind of Corrupt Leaders – menacing bursts of socially charged grind that get you thinking while it’s punching you in the face. But Grindmother’s vocal chops are impressive. She rails like a wounded animal across the likes of “Mother Nature”, “History Repeats”, and the title track; her age and affinity for baking and knitting become incidental to her ability to perform like this.

AGE OF DESTRUCTION is a fun blast of hit n’ run grindcore; if you’re a fan of the genre, you’ll dig the wares that Grindmother is peddling. Even if grind isn’t your thing, you know you’re curious to hear what it’s all about – so ride the link to the Bandcamp page to give it a listen.

Grind on grandma, grind on….
