Copenhell Festival 2015
Already in February the festival dropped the first names of the bands that were going to perform at the sixth edition of the festival. The first acts revealed were Hammerfall, Marduk, Primordial, Primus, and Slipknot to mention a few. This year’s mascot was the wolf Fenris. The wolf is a key figure in the ancient Scandinavian beliefs of the gods Odin and Thor around the time of the vikings. The wolf was the premonition of Ragnarok which was the end of the world. This year’s mascot also pays tribute to the Danish wolf. New for this year was the possibility to purchase one-day tickets, and if you wanted to camp, you were allowed to bring along your own tent. In past year’s you could only buy tent from the festival crew.
The festival began on Thursday and kept on rolling on the following Friday and Saturday. Last year the festival began a day earlier on Wednesday because that was when Iron Maiden wanted to play. The Sword canceled their appearance in April and was replaced by both Monolord and Ensiferum. The last adds to the program came in May with The Darkness, Turbonegro and Red Warszawa. The one day tickets to both Thursday and Friday was quickly sold out and the bands performed just like previous years; on the three stages Hades, Helviti and Pandemonium. Thursday was a shorter day than the rest and the gates opened at 4 in the afternoon. The area also closed a lot earlier that day, at 2 in the morning, when it was closed at 3 and 4 in the morning the following days. The head sponsor was the Danish beer label Royal which created the festival’s own beer this year. The can had the festival logo on it and was sold in a limited edition. This year, the festival was moved to a week earlier than previous years which made the festival collide with Grasspop Metal Meeting in Belgium and Hellfest festival in France.
