Best of 2014 – Infamous Butcher 2014

1. Obituary – Inked in Blood

Obituary – Inked in Blood
Obituary – Inked in Blood

Emerging from the Tampa swamps once more to bludgeon us with grinding death metal, Florida Death Metal legends Obituary return with their 9th studio album. The album is brutal, raw, and very underground demo looking from the artwork and the packaging. This is all intentional, because the album sounds like SLOWLY WE ROT meets CAUSE OF DEATH! Obituary hasn’t changed at all folks, and that is fine by me!

2. Sinister – The Post Apocalyptic Servant

22 years after the classic CROSS THE STYX, Holland’s Sinister continues to crank out brutal death metal. No melodic mamby pamby shit here, just an all out assault on the senses with killer riffs, hammering blast beats, and inhuman guttural growls. For a perfect example of death metal done right, look no further!

3. Judas Priest – Redeemer of Souls

Priest’s glorious return, REDEEMER OF SOULS feels like a blend of all things that make Priest the legendary band that they are. I hear elements of PAINKILLER, BRITISH STEEL, DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH, SAD WINGS OF DESTINY and more here; this one was made for the fans. Metal God Rob Halford is still the best metal vocalist ever, check out “Halls of Valhalla” and “Battle Cry” for proof.

4. Massacre – Back From Beyond

An unlikely comeback with a new lineup of this classic Florida Death Metal band. Newcomers Ed Webb (vocals) and Mike Mazzonetto (drums) blend well with Rick Rozz (guitars) and Terry Butler (bass) to produce killer album of riffs, growls, beats, and mayhem! The album sounds like old school FROM BEYOND era Massacre meets Grave and Cannibal Corpse, I love it!

5. Cannibal Corpse – A Skeletal Domain

Another sick serving of gore from the death metal masters! If Cannibal Corpse is anything it is consistent. George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher’s guttural vocals and screams, Alex Webster’s best in the business insane bass playing, blast beats galore, awesome riffs, screaming solos, this album has all the CC goods!
