Blood, Sweat & Tears
Child Is Father To The Man (SACD)
2014, Audio Fidelity
I am vaguely familiar to the music of Blood, Sweat & Tears only knowing their more popular songs, mainly from their second album featuring Canada’s own David Clayton Thomas on vocals. This is the debut that features the hit single “I Can’t Quit Her”.
As with all of the Audio Fidelity releases the sound is what is priority and this is no different. The SACD layer sounds wonderful and the 5.1 layer is interesting for those that enjoy hearing music in surround but with the exceptions of live concert Blu-Rays I prefer to hear my music in 2 channel stereo or a dedicated mono mix. What ever way you prefer to listen at the end of the day it’s the music that matters.
Upon my initial listen of this album I thought it was a decent release and an enjoyable listen. When it got to “I Can’t Quit Her” I reached for the volume to turn it up a little. What a great tune. The louder I turned it up during this song the better it sounded. This is one of those old classic songs that can only be enjoyed at high volume and this disc allows that with no distortion or ear fatigue.
A fine release from Audio Fidelity. I have my fingers crossed for the next one where David Clayton Thomas makes his debut with the band.
