Summer Rock Festival
10-12/7 – 2014
Live review and pictures by: Anders Sandvall
And so it is once again time for the annual version of the Summer Rock festival located in a small town outside Malmo Sweden called Svedala. The festival is focused on mainly bringing Swedish acts to the town but there’s always at least one foreign act that guests at the festival. In 2012 the festival celebrated 25 years and W.A.S.P. was booked but Blackie and company canceled their performance and Thin Lizzy took their spot. W.A.S.P. promised to show 2013 but once again canceled and Helloween replaced Blackie and his band. Last year the festival broke the all time record and welcomed 20,500 people to Svedala. Twisted Sister was one of the headline acts during the three days and was the biggest reason why I visited the festival. Other acts that performed was the Swedish Idol contestant Robin Stjärnberg, the pop-phenomena Veronica Maggio, The Sounds and Dead By April. Besides the more famous names a lot of local bands also performed on the three stages on the area. Even though many maybe consider Dead By April as a metal act, I don’t, and think it was sad that the festival hadn’t booked any harder acts besides Twisted Sister, but that’s my opinion.
The festivals motto is that there should be something for everyone to see which is something the festival always manages to fulfill. Whether you are a hard rocker, a pop-lover, a middle-aged housewife or a teenager there is something that appeals to every kind of taste. The festival is also very organized and includes a lot of security, health staff and nurses and police which makes it a pretty calm festival. The festival took place during thursday-friday-saturday and the headline acts during the days were Dead By April, Twisted Sister and Veronica Maggio. The festival collaborates and supports the foundations Young Cancer and My Big Day which makes sick kids dreams comes true. There are kids that have met Zlatan and gotten signed shirts from Iron Maiden to mention just a few things the foundation have made come true for sick kids. The foundation Young Cancer focuses on supporting young people that’s got cancer and the foundation got a tent that sold merchandise on the festival. The first day of the festival for me was Friday and I was really looking forward to see Twisted Sister in action at Summer Rock Festival this summer.
