Here comes a review of this years edition of Getaway Rock Festival in Gavle Sweden. The festival was jammed with good music like In Flames, Nashville Pussy, Deep Purple, Behemoth, Testament, System Of A Down, Lamb Of God and Iced Earth. The festival was packed with good people that didn’t seem to mind the constant rain during the first day of the festival. Unfortunately, couldn’t we be there all three days because of a broken camera caused by too much rain and moisture but read about Friday at the festival down below.

This year was the fourth time that Getaway Rock Festival was held at Gasklockorna at the outskirts of Gavle. Last year the festival was a bit fussy when it came to putting out information about the festival online. This year it was the opposite, the festival was early with putting out information which felt really good. Bands that performed during the three days were Gamma Ray, Testament, Trivium, Exodus, Nashville Pussy, Iced Earth and Hatebreed. Amongst the Swedish acts that performed we could find Soilwork, Sator, Imperial State Electric, and Civil War. Headline acts were In Flames, Lamb of God, System of A Down, Gojira, Deep Purple, Within Temptation and the Swedish punk act The Kristet Utseende. The festival had moved the dates with almost a month later so this year was the festival held the weekend after Wacken Open Air in Germany.   As always, the festival was held on an old industrial area called Gasklockorna. Gavle is located about 200 kilometers north of the capital Stockholm so the festival is easy to reach from most places in Sweden. Close to the festival is two supermarkets and a pizza place and it doesn’t take long to walk into town so the location of the festival couldn’t be better.

The camping was located at the same spot as previous years and it takes about 10 minutes to go from the camping to the festival area. This year the area looked like it did in the beginning of the festivals history when it came to the placement of the stages. Three stages was placed on the area and they were called Green Stage, Red Stage and the small stage inside the house called Black Stage. The Green and Black stage was located beside each other and the Red stage was situated at the other end of the area.  A few days before opening the festival was struck by cancellations. It was Witchcraft that canceled their show and was replaced by Ceremonial Oath. The big news for this year was that there were beer carts that sold beer which you could walk around and drink in the entire area. The beer house was also there but it was OK to buy beer outside the beer house. Alcohol, and where you can drink it, is a very touchy subject in Sweden so the festival had really outdone themselves when it came to the alcohol sales plan. There were many that welcomed that news and to be honest why wasn’t this done before? There were also a bunch of meet and greets planned and on Thursday you could meet Testament and on Friday Gojira. On Saturday was it Amaranthe, Civil War and PHILM that sat and met fans more band’s will come later. The events was held together with Gefle Hardrock Club that also provided the tent.
