Reckless Love @ Barfly, London
11th October 2012
Reckless Love have enjoyed quite a bit of success on these shores recently, after performing to a packed tent at Download and very nearly stealing the show on their run supporting Black Veil Brides. No doubt helped by the meteoric rise of fellow glam-metal group Steel Panther, although they are a lot more serious and less of a gimmick, Reckless Love have easily appealed to the same audience and snowballed in popularity.
They are doing something which is quite unusual on this side of the Atlantic, in this day and age; they are taking up a residency at the Barfly in London’s famous Camden Town – still regarded by some as the capital of the UK’s alternative scene. Playing a show a week for a month at the Barfly between other dates, they should no doubt raise their audience and profile In the capital even more.
Switching up their set a bit tonight, Reckless Love kick their set off with Feel My Heat, packed with gang vocals, licks and solos galore. Start as you mean to go on, or so they say! You can smell the charisma they’re churning out from outside the building as Olli just owns any crowd put in front of him. The girls want to be with him, and the guys want to be with him.

Anthems off their latest album Animal Attraction¸ Hot and Dirty Dreams keep the party going though without a doubt the highlights of the show are a killer cover of Def Leppard’s Hysteria – not long followed by a stomping rendition of Queen’s Tie Your Mother Down as they are joined by Matt from The Treatment.

As the set winds down with Animal Attraction, and encore One More Time it’s a bit of a shame this night has to end. The wonderful party atmosphere these Fins has created has been remarkable and anyone else who made it to the following London shows will probably be just as lucky and the nights just as enjoyable. The musicianship is top quality (as you’d expect from the Scandinavians!), the performance is tight and they definitely have enough variety to ensure they can go for quite some time yet.

If you’ve not heard of Reckless Love yet, you definitely will and you’ll be crying you missed a date as intimate as this one.
