Founded in 2003 by Athros (Forteresse/Ur Falc\’h) and Nordet (Ur Falc\’h), the band are considered as one of the forerunners of the \”Métal Noir Québécois\” movement, blending raw Black Metal with Québec\’s traditional/folkloric music. They released their first album, Fiers et Victorieux, in 2005 with the album having a large influence on Québec\’s Black Metal scene which helped shaped it today, the group went dormant for five years, then emerged again in 2010 on a split 7\” with Forteresse. Seven years after their debut album, they have now returned with a self-titled album and although this release is harsher, and has less emphasis on folkloric passages, I have to say I really wasn\’t impressed and found this album to be really poor.

There really isn’t much I like about this album at all. Although the production was bad, I did not find that this put me off, as this is how a lot of classic black metal sounds, but I found this album repetitive, and boring with the songs lacking diversity with the same vocals throughout. There are elements of Thrash/Punk and Folk metal infused with Black Metal in this album, but it just sounded like a mess and doesn\’t come together well. Yes they have a raw and furious black metal approach, and although this is one of my favourite genres I didn’t enjoy this album at all and was tempted to just skip the tracks and get to the end. Eventually I did find one track I liked and that was track 5. ‘Le Lieu de la Vengeance’, I did actually like this one but it was just a shame the rest of the tracks weren’t like this.

This is one album that won’t be making it into my personal collection but I’m sure there are some black metal fans who will disagree with me and find sense in this…whereas I didn’t, just the same annoying noise going on and on…and on – and I am a massive Black Metal fan!
