Pure Steel Records Releasing Power Theory’s An Axe to Grind on June 29th

Spread the metal:

Germany’s Pure Steel Records will release An Axe to Grind on June 29, 2012, the day the Philadelphia band performs at WARRIORS OF METAL FEST V OPEN AIR at the Frontier Ranch in Pataskala, OH. The masterfully composed follow-up to (the originally self-titled) Out of The Ashes, Into The Fire… And Other Tales of Insanity reissue, the new album is a traditional heavy metal attack influenced by acts like Saxon with a Metallica/(early) Metal Church vocal delivery. Classic metal riffing and soaring twin-leads combine with thrashier elements to produce an album that is as ironclad as it is memorable. The album cover was painted by Eliran Kantor, also known for his work on Sodom’s In War and Pieces and Testament’s The Formation of Damnation. This is first rate American Heavy Metal.

Power Theory was envisioned and created in 2007 by Bob “BB” Ballinger with the intention to form a True Metal band with a mix of the NWOBHM, 80’s German Power Metal, and a little bay area Thrash thrown in to shake it up. Dave Santini joined forces with a shared vision on Vocals in 2008 and then through some line-up changes and growing pains momentum picked up in early 2009 and the band started playing what would amount 30+ shows in the next year and a quarter, and also completed writing, arranging, and recording the Demo/EP “Metal Forever” with Jason Grosse at 1021 Studios in Tullytown, PA.

Power Theory literally became a Tight Metal Machine playing live shows and transferred that energy right into the demo recording sessions. They instantly struck up a friendship and gained a huge fan in Bob Kudler, owner/operator of Metal MainiAxe Radio in Old Bridge, NJ and gained international airplay on Live365.com radio through Bob. The band continued playing live shows with a temporary drummer and bassist/ member Jason Tete and started to record an 11 song full length debut album at 1021 Studios as well, in between gigs which was completed in June 2010.

BB realized that the bands best options of getting signed to a label would be in Germany or Europe and decided in July 2010 to pursue hiring Legendary Producer and Audio Engineer Achim Koehler (Sacred Steel, Primal Fear, Sinner, Brainstorm) to Master the debut album and acquire the right “European” metal sound. Achim agreed and did a phenomenal job. In mid September 2010, armed with promotional copies of “Out of the Ashes, Into the Fire” mastered by Achim Koehler, the full length debut cd containing the cover artwork “Into the Lake of Fire” by Howard David Johnson, Power Theory aggressively sought a record deal. Power Theory soon signed to a 2 year deal on Pure Steel Records – Germany, as of February 1st, 2011.

Pure Steel Records handsomely re-packaged the CD and released the album worldwide on April 29th, 2011 at annual The “Keep it True” festival in Germany. We hit the local stages hard with a live drummer in support of the release, and Jason Tete amicably departed and was replaced by metal bassist Jay “Berserker” Pekala in May 2010. The band started writing, and arranging immediately with Jay P. and began recording sessions for a full length-follow up CD to be titled “An Axe to Grind” with a new improved veteran Metal back-line consisting of Jay Pekala and permanent member/drummer Lorin Savadove.
A June 2012 release date targeted. The band has just recently commissioned the world famous artist Eliran Kantor (Testament, Gwar, Atheist) to create the cover artwork for the forthcoming release “An Axe to Grind.
