Forteresse are an Ambient Black Metal band from Quebec City, Canada who formed in 2006. After exploring more atmospheric avenues, Forteresse have now returned to a more traditional and aggressive style of Black Metal for their fourth album release.

This is an album I knew I would love, resounding as always with a firm \”Québécois\” identity and filled with the piercing leads and hypnotic riffs which have become the band\’s trademark, Crépuscule d\’Octobre is an amazing album. With the album starting off with an ambient introduction ‘Silence d\’Octobre’‘ it’s not long until Athros raw, aggressive black metal vocals kick in, keeping the entire album true to the traditional black metal style, which I love. With the ambient aspect to this band, the songs are softer and less aggressive than most other black metal bands out there, but the album has great sounds, lyrics, and is original and speaks of history. It also has great production, keeping it dirty and gritty, the black metal should be!

The album has some unique elements to it too, with some soft spoken lyrics and some folk metal in there too for the song intro’s, making the songs sounding less repetitive. Although this won’t be an album for everyone, I’m sure black metal fans will love it…I know I did!
