Rex Goudie – One Hundred Pages Later

2010, Fontana North

Rating: 4.5/5

Newfoundland’s Rex Goudie originally gained his claim to fame by becoming the runner-up on Canadian Idol. After the show he released an album to much acclaim here in his home Province as well as a follow-up disc. Now some 4 years later he has been dropped by that label and has recorded this third CD, they way he wants to.

ONE HUNDRED PAGES LATER is more music and songwriting oriented then what you’d expect based on the stereo-type of an ex Canadian Idol contestant. This writer’s first real exposure to Rex’s music was this past summer performing in a pub. I went in with zero expectations and walked out praising his performance and music. This is why this disc became of interest to me. ONE HUNDRED PAGES LATER is a personal journey into the life and mind of the NL native. With a full band of musicians backing him , it is the vocals and acoustic guitar playing that really stand out amongst the rest, especially the vocal’s.

An easy album to get into upon first listen. It is one of those discs that won’t stray far from your player and you’ll go to time and time again when you want to hear some great music. Rex has finally come into his own musically and a songwriter with ONE HUNDRED PAGES LATER. It’s no wonder it was one of my personal favorite releases of 2010.
