One of many bands from across the world, this version hail from the Czech Republic. They have been around for over 10 years but this is only album number two, SIGNED BY EVIL. Speaking of being signed the band are now at home on the label Metal Swamp who are rapidly becoming the nations biggest and best Metal label.

Demiurg is a very decent blend of Thrash and Death. They are not in the Gothernburg style of mixing the two genres but more of a traditional thrash with some harsher vocals. I’ve seen the band described as Progressive Death metal as well. It’s a fine line.

SIGNED BY EVIL is a simple package with a nice cover if you look closely at the art there are some interesting images. The band includes lyrics and a couple of photos and the whole thing has a good production. It’s a good value with some bonus video stuff of the band on the disc.

I found the band were at their best when they slowed down just a touch. The first three songs are very, fast and aggressive, lots of drums and high tempos. When they slowed down a bit on songs like ‘The Night Hunt’ they songs get a bit more room to breath and have a bit more atmosphere. There is a 2 minute instrumental called ‘Virtual Machine’ which is a really great showcase the talents of bassist, Martin Vanek, interlaced with just some hints of keyboards.

This is a promising release for the band. It’s loose and clattery thrash is not super-tight, giving the songs a bit of a feel of being frantic and wild, and just about off the rails. The musicianship is great and the performances are quite strong. SIGNED BY EVIL has a lot of good qualities that most fans of Death and heavier thrash could embrace.
