Spread the metal:

One of the preeminent rock musicians of our time, Lenny Kravitz has transcended genre, style, race and class to ascertain a 20-year musical career that revels in the rich influences of ’60s and ’70s soul, rock and funk.  To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of his incendiary, critically acclaimed 1989 debut, Let Love Rule, Kravitz and Virgin/EMI have collaborated to create an expanded 2CD and digital reissue to be released April 21 (April 20 internationally).  Let Love Rule (20th Anniversary Edition) features the newly remastered original album, plus 18 bonus tracks, including 13 previously unreleased demos, rare B-sides, and live recordings.

20 years ago, Lenny Kravitz wrote, recorded and produced his iconic debut album, Let Love Rule, striking a chord around the world and propelling him to international stardom.   The title song’s signature line, “It’s time to take a stand, Brothers and Sisters join hands” is a theme Kravitz feels is still relevant to this day, and he is harnessing this message of hope, taking it on tour with him throughout Europe.

This spring and summer, Kravitz will tour to 55 European cities on his “LLR 20 (09) Tour,” starting on April 17 in Caen, France and ending July 19 in Stuttgart, Germany. Along the way, the tour will visit the UK, Italy, Spain, Austria, Switzerland and several other European countries.

Lenny Kravitz is widely regarded as one of rock’s most respected singer-songwriters.  He’s also a multi-talented instrumentalist, producer and arranger, which has resonated throughout eight studio albums, culminating into a timeless catalog.

He has won four consecutive Grammy Awards, setting a new record for the most wins in the “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance” category.  Kravitz’s appeal has also been recognized by his peers; his collaborative efforts are as varied as his own influences. Madonna, Slash, Aerosmith, Jay-Z, N.E.R.D., Mick Jagger, P. Diddy and Alicia Keys are just some of the legends who have sought to work with him.

Rob Thomas has announced the forthcoming release of his second solo album, entitled “CRADLESONG.”  Due on June 30th, the album features the first single, “Her Diamonds,” which will hit radio and video outlets in mid-April.  Once again produced by Matt Serletic, “CRADLESONG” is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Thomas’ 2005 solo debut  “…SOMETHING TO BE” which was certified platinum in Canada.

“I like musical hybrids,” says Thomas about the musical direction of the new album.  “Like, ‘What would it sound like if we took Prince’s drummer and mixed him with really amazing Nashville players?’  I like to take everyone just left of their comfort zone and record it."

In 2007, Thomas reunited with his bandmates in Matchbox Twenty for the Canadian certified gold release of “EXILE ON MAINSTREAM.” The group’s first album in five years, the set combined a retrospective of their greatest hits with a six-track EP of new songs produced by Steve Lillywhite – including the single, “How Far We’ve Come.”

Thomas has written and performed a remarkable string of hits, including Matchbox Twenty’s #1-charting “Push,” “3AM,” “If You’re Gone,” “Bent,” “Disease,” and “Unwell,” plus such favorites as “Real World,” “Back 2 Good,” “Mad Season,” and “Bright Lights.”  His smash collaboration with Santana, the Thomas-penned “Smooth,” earned Rob three Grammy Awards and ranks #1 on Billboard’s “Top Hot 100 Rock Songs” chart and #2 on the magazine’s “Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs.”  He has also worked with the likes of Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger, Marc Anthony, and Bernie Taupin.  Combining all of his projects, Thomas has contributed to sales of some 80 million records.

Last weekend at the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, TX, New York rockers BLACK WATER RISING won the High Times Doobie Award for “Best Rock/Alternative Artist,” beating out such tough competition as Staind, Eagles of Death Metal, The Mars Volta, Danko Jones, and Warrior Soul. The award was presented to the band by Doug Pinnick of King’s X.

BWR drummer Mike Meselsohn commented on the band’s victory: “It was an honor to be nominated, and we are psyched to have won, especially considering the other bands we were up against. We’d like to thank High Times Magazine and Bobby Black for the recognition and opportunity to win such a prestigious award. Plus, we had a blast playing the show!”

Vocalist Rob Traynor also commented on the award: “We’re thrilled to have won, and the trophy has been getting a lot of use since we’ve received it.”

BLACK WATER RISING is currently playing a string of dates to support their upcoming self-titled debut, which streets April 7. The band recently recorded a video for their first single, “Brother Go On,” which is now available at or See below for the most up-to-date list of BWR performances!

Reprise Records will release Green Day’s long-awaited eighth studio album, entitled 21st Century Breakdown, on Friday, May 15th, 2009. The album is the best-selling trio’s first studio album since 2004’s two-time Grammy Award-winning punk-rock opera American Idiot, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, spawned five hit singles, and went on to sell more than 12 million copies worldwide.

21st Century Breakdown is divided into three acts: “Heroes and Cons,” “Charlatans and Saints,” and “Horseshoes and Handgrenades,” and follows a young couple, Christian and Gloria, through the mess and promise of the century so far. Songs include “Know Your Enemy”, “21 Guns”, “East Jesus Nowhere”, “Before the Lobotomy”, and “Restless Heart Syndrome.” In a recent feature, Rolling Stone called the album “even more ambitious than American Idiot” and “a record of die-hard punk ideals…tightly scripted, continually ascending classic-rock excitement.”

Singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool have been at work writing, arranging, and recording 21st Century Breakdown since early 2006 and are currently making finishing touches with producer Butch Vig, who is known for his work with Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, and many others.

The first single from 21st Century Breakdown is “Know Your Enemy,” which will impact radio and be available for purchase from all online retailers this April.

 Party In The Mud

Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records announced today the signing of a worldwide deal with legendary American rock outfit Lynyrd Skynyrd.  The band is already at work in Nashville recording a new album to be released later this year.  This will be the first set of new studio material since 2003’s Vicious Cycle.

Singer Johnny Van Zant comments, “Skynyrd has been with a lot of labels over the years and we are excited to be reunited with one of the best, Tom Lipsky and his new label Loud & Proud.  We’re busy putting the finishing touches on our next record being produced by Bob Marlette and can’t wait for the fans to hear it.”  He goes on to say, “Our brother Billy Powell recorded 6 tracks before his sudden passing and we are confident he’d be very happy with the end result.  We’re all really proud of this record and who better to put it out than Loud & Proud!”

Signing Lynyrd Skynyrd marks a landmark deal for Loud & Proud, whose roster currently includes Collective Soul and Sammy Hagar. “Very few artists have had the impact on music that Lynyrd Skynyrd have had. We are proud that they are putting their trust in Loud & Proud Records to continue their incredible legacy,” says Tom Lipsky, President.

2009 marks a key point in Lynyrd Skynyrd’s storied career. The band has enjoyed continued success and visibility in the past few years including a recent Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Their American rock anthem “Sweet Home Alabama” has passed the 2 million mark in downloaded ringtones.  Their last single, “Red White & Blue” reached #1 on the Rock Charts.  Last summer, the band co-headlined one of the most successful tours of the year with their good friend Kid Rock.  High profile appearances, including the show closer at last year’s VH1 Fashion Rocks helped to expose the band to a younger audience.  With a catalog of over 60 albums and sales beyond 30 million, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a major cultural icon that appeals to all generations.

Roadrunner President Jonas Nachsin adds, “We at Roadrunner are thrilled to be associated with Lynyrd Skynyrd as they move forward in a beyond storied career.  This partnership between two powerhouse rock brands has just ignited.”

On March 30, Beastie Boys’ third album Check Your Head will be the next B Boys classic to receive the remastered expanded reissue treatment by Beastie Boys and Capitol/EMI, with pre-orders beginning at for multiple configurations ranging from a high quality DRM-free digital download of the album (including its numerous and classic b-sides and bonus tracks) to an ultra-deluxe 4 LP 180HQ vinyl version packaged in a fabric-wrapped hardcover coffee table book case and limited to 2000 copies. The retail release date of all physical editions other than the 4xLP version will be April 7, with the ultra deluxe following close behind.

The Check Your Head reissue news coincides with the announcement today that Beastie Boys will headline the Hollywood Bowl on September 24.

Following on a confirmed appearance at this summer’s Bonnaroo festival and ongoing speculation regarding the band’s appearances at various summer festivals, the Hollywood Bowl show is both the first headline show in the run-up to a new Beastie Boys album due later this year, as well as the first time Beastie Boys have ever headlined the hallowed L.A. venue.

For ticket info visit:

Originally released in April 1992, Check Your Head was a milestone for Beastie Boys on multiple levels: It was the first B Boys album to be produced in its entirety by Mario Caldato Jr. and to feature keyboard player Keyboard Money Mark, as well as the first to be recorded at the band’s own G-Son studios in Atwater Village, CA. Most significantly, however, Check Your Head marked the return of live instrumentation to the forefront and backbone of the Beastie Boys sound, with the bulk of the album featuring Mike D on drums, Adrock on guitar and MCA on bass for the first time since the band’s early 1980s hardcore punk recordings.

On the strength of now-classic singles and videos "So What’cha Want,"

"Pass The Mic," "Gratitude" and "Jimmy James"–all of which are included in their original 12" vinyl incarnations in the ultra deluxe version–Check Your Head stormed the U.S. Top 10, ultimately returning Beastie Boys to hard-touring, platinum-selling status, and setting the band up for the pop cultural dominance it would achieve in the decade to come.

The full list of Check Your Head reissue configurations is as follows:

* Digital Download (album and b-sides)

 – Deluxe Digital Option (also includes videos and video commentary)

 * Deluxe, limited collector’s vinyl + Digital Download

 * Standard double vinyl + Digital Download

 * Ecopack double CD + Digital Download

 * Shirt combos:

 – Deluxe Digital + shirt

 – Standard Vinyl + shirt

 – CD + shirt

STATIC-X Unleash New Album

Best Buy partners to bring you, the fans, an exclusive bonus package of the new Static-X album CULT OF STATIC. The package contains 2 bonus tracks, and a membership card to the CULT OF STATIC where you can register to access a 3rd bonus track plus the chance to win tickets and a meet & greet with the band.

The Industrial Metal Machine called Static-X returns with their heaviest, most flammable work to date. CULT OF STATIC, on Reprise Records, marries the band’s aggressive driving force with disarming experimentation.

The fiery raw quality of CULT OF STATIC is blatant as the first single “Stingwray” hits airwaves February 14th. “Stingwray” was inspired by Wayne Static’s wife Tera Wray Static and the Corvette Stingray she drives. The song’s powerful beats and heavy guitar riffs make this song a commanding force on the record.

Keeping the integral tones, Static-X encompasses shredding guitars with solos that have brought the band to a level of playing to be reckoned with. The cybernetic stomp of "Hypure" and "You Am I" bludgeon, bruise and break with precise grooves.  Elsewhere, the staccato riffs on "Terminal" crush through an unmistakable guitar tone. Guitarist Koichi Fukuda blazes through incendiary solos, while Tony Campos bolts down demonic bass lines and Nick Oshiro pounds out deadly rhythms. Front-man Wayne Static riffs pure violence and screams out his soul. “Over the years my voice has been destroyed from excessive touring… and I love it,” exclaims Static. “The vocals on the new record are raw and brutal.”

A song you may already be familiar with is "LUNATIC" as it was included on the Punisher: War Zone movie soundtrack.  Although “LUNATIC” is relentless and raw, brandishing a ripping groove and an impenetrable barrier of guitars the album cut was re-recorded to feature a solo by legendary Megadeth front-man Dave Mustaine. "I’ve been a huge Megadeth fan for years,” explains Static. “We’ve toured with them twice. Mustaine and I really hit it off on the road. His lead style is one of the most distinctive styles out there. There’s something amazing about it. When you hear him solo, you know it’s him."

Since their breakthrough debut, Wisconsin Death Trip, Static-X has sold over three million records, and they’ve completed numerous successful world tours including three Ozzfests, The Family Values Tour and Gigantour. CULT OF STATIC is the bastard child of a 10 year journey of metal annihilation, unleashing the beast to all in their path. “I can hardly believe it’s been a decade since the release of our first cd, "Wisconsin Death Trip," and we’re still going strong thanks to all of our loyal fans,” explains Static. “The title CULT OF STATIC is meant to be a big thank-you to everyone who has supported us through the years.  I’m looking forward to seeing you all on the upcoming world tour.”

Fresh off CMW Acres of Lions @ Juno Fest & Juno Cup

The album’s lead single “Closer” could easily pass for New Found Glory, with its blazing guitars, pounding rhythm section, and bubblegum chorus. Elsewhere, the band defies this comparison on the six-minute power-ballad opener “Entertainment.” Acres of Lions’ sound is tight and professional; no doubt, these guys know what they’re doing.” – Discorder

The Saw Doctors Release New CD/DVD March 17, 2009

Irish super-group, The Saw Doctors are on tour in support of their forthcoming March 17, 2009 release of the new documentary DVD, Clare Island to Cape Cod: The Saw Doctors in Concert and its companion Live CD, Live at the Melody Tent.

The new documentary film Clare Island to Cape Cod: The Saw Doctors in Concert, directed by Steven Lock (David Bowie: An Earthling at 50 Documentary) focuses on the band’s smartly written music and solid rapport with its live audience. It is a combination of creative and fun live performance interspersed with talking and joking that mimics any standup comedian.

Much of the footage on the DVD comes from the August 2008, Cape Cod Melody Tent concert in Hyannis, MA.

Shamtown Records has released a companion Live CD Live at the Melody Tent featuring audio tracks from the filmed concert including the Bands Irish number one, N17 and HAY WRAP. MRI Distribution handles the CD and DVD for the US market.

Saw Doctors founding band member and guitarist Leo Moran says: “We’ve played The Melody Tent in Hyannis (Mass.) every August for almost 10 years and every year we’d say we should film the concert in order to show the folks back home what we’re up to in the summertime in the States. It’s always energetic and enthusiastic and it feels like a primitive ceremony in an amphitheatre or a boxing match. The band loves it and the crowd loves it too!

The full track listing for the live CD and DVD is as follows:

DVD Spotlight – The Northampton Republican – March 08, 2009

The Saw Doctors, "Clare Island to Cape Cod: The Saw Doctors in Concert" (Shamtown).

4 out of 5 stars.

It’s been a good year for Ireland’s venerable, lovable, pub-rock party kings the Saw Doctors.

They recently scored their first No. 1 hit in Ireland in 17 years with their fully fueled cover of the Sugababes "About You Now," they’ve got a new live CD ("Live at the Melody Tent"), as well as this DVD which captures the magnetism the Celtic rockers exude every time they take the stage.

Produced by Steven Lock, the documentary focuses a lot on the band’s performance before a full house last summer at the Cape Cod Melody Tent, a "theater-in-the-round" with a revolving stage well known throughout New England.

Between blasts of everything from classic Saw Doctors’ songs like "N17," "Green and Red of Mayo," and "Hey Wrap," there’s a brief but beautiful cover of the Bee Gees’ "Massachusetts," and plenty of interview footage with the band, primarily founding members Davy Carton and Leo Moran. There’s also a great segment back in Ireland where the Docs celebrate the success of "About You Now."  The DVD also includes a bonus feature video of the band’s early breakthrough hit "I Useta Lover."

The Saw Doctors arrived Stateside on March 6, 2009 for the first of 12 headlining shows including two special St. Patrick’s Day celebration concerts in New York City, at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square, confirmed for March 13/14.

For New York City area fans, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with The Saw Doctors has become an annual tradition.

And this year, on the heels of the band celebrating their 21st year together, is no exception.  Recognizing the difficult economic times their fans are experience, the band determined to bring a sense of carefree joy and well being to their audience during this year’s celebratory concerts.

The Saw Doctors ‘punked’ up version of the Sugababes song “About You Now“ is a number one UK Chart Topper.  After a gap of 17 years, the West of Ireland rockers topped the Irish Music Singles Chart surpassing international artists such as Pink and Kings of Leon.

Framing Hanley Seizing "The Moment"

Framing Hanley’s "Lollipop" continues its assault on these United States of America. Yes, it’s that rock cover of Lil’ Wayne’s hit song that you can’t help but sing along to. MARKY RAMONE Besieged By Uncontrollable Fans In Mexico

Things got way out of control after last Saturday night’s show in Mexico. The van shuttling the band back to the hotel was besieged by fans. While attempting to protect the band, a member of the touring party was injured. The security at the venue did their best, but was overwhelmed by the numbers of people and intensity of the situation. They never had to deal with anything like this before.

When attempting to leave the venue, fans rushed toward Marky Ramone and band. Surrounded by overzealous fans pounding on the windows of the band’s vehicle, the fans eventually cracked the windshield. One fan was thrown into on-coming traffic trying to cling to the side of the moving van. He was not injured. A few moments later he and a friend were spotted in a taxi that caught up to the van, shouting and waving at their hero.

If anyone saw the DVD "RAW" when the band was besieged by fans in Argentina? Picture that, but much worse. It was a life threatening situation.

Sunday’s show was to be in a larger venue, with the same amount of security. In the interests of everyone’s safety and well being, it has been decided that Sunday’s show in Mexico City will not go forward.

Marky apologies to all his fans in Mexico City and says he’s really enjoyed everything about the shows and wants to make sure no one gets hurt moving forward. He promises to come back with The Blitzkrieg soon under safer circumstances.

Marky will be coming back to Mexico to play in May, so keep a look out. For more information go to

On Dec. 16 2008, thirteen year old Ian Hyland’s life changed forever after a snowboarding accident left him paralyzed in a rehab facility with a severe neck injury.  Hyland’s brother Deriek Simon of the band Toy Box is organizing a benefit concert in Toronto, Ontario at the Kathedral on March 29, 2009.  Other bands donating their time include Easy Sleezy, Warmachine, Sabrina Korva and Party Gun Rush.

This devastating tragedy is also turning into a serious financial strain on the family as there are specific expenses including modifications to Hyland’s family home and a specialized vehicle to get him around that are being incurred.  “I’ve put together this show in hopes that we can rally together and help my little brother through this already incredibly tough time,” says Simon. “All proceeds of this event will be directly donated to helping him through the recovery process.”

The bands involved in the concert are all close to the family and eagerly offered their services for the night.  “We’ve been tight with Toy Box for years and to see how fast a situation like this can happen and change so much is really an eye opener,” says Mike “Wolfgang”

Verbeke of Easy Sleezy. “It’s something that can affect anyone, so we’re honoured to be a part of this event. I hope that everyone can open up their heart and lend a hand.”

“It came as a great shock to hear of this devastating news that has spun a family’s life upside down,” says Chad Campbell of Chizzy Productions, “I’m very proud of an event like this.”

Ian Hyland thought he was out for a day of fun snowboarding and now the outcome has him facing the reality of never being able to walk again.

The surgery and rehab is going incredibly well and he is in very good spirits.  His family and friends hope many will come out to the show and support this great cause.

TOY BOX formed in 2004 and since fought their way to make a name in the independent music scene in Toronto. From pounding the streets with posters and flyers, to independently putting together cross Canada tours to promote the indie release of their first full length record “The Assassination Of…” Toy Box is no stranger to determination and perseverance. Working with indie label Voodoo Records, distribution for their LP was locked in by Fontana North. TOYBOX’s music is a very “melodically driven, hard rock”, commonly compared to Foo Fighters / Three Days Grace.

EASY SLEEZY is a 5 piece Hard Rock band that is fuelled by the notion that music comes from the soul and shared only with the hearts of those who choose to listen. Our desires lie in the path of self glorification and the idea that we have something more valuable than even the virtues of sound. Call it ego, call it tarnished will of almost 15 years digging out of the industrial grave, EASY SLEEZY has an army of self perpetuating, bad ass rockers who have chosen the life of sacrifice to achieve what most have deemed impossible.

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, WARMACHINE is a promising, young four-piece power/thrash metal band that strives to carry the torch of this coveted genre. Their music consists of incorporating classic heavy metal influenced riffs, intertwining them with tasteful, catchy dual guitar melodies and harmonies, along with exceptional soloing that mirrors the very best of what true-to-heart heavy metal has to offer.

22-year-old SABRINA KORVA was performing at age 7, on stage singing a duet with Bryan Adams at 13 and co-writing with successful hit makers throughout her teens. This stylish singer/songwriter is about to release her debut EP Hold Onto Myself with songs produced by Jim Huff (Edwin, Headstones), Mike K, CJ Eiriksson (Matchbox 20, Rob Zombie), and Michael Raphael (NEVE).

PARTY GUN RUSH is a brand new group formed of members from Cauterize and Very Jive. The future of this collision of musicians is certain to be ear catching. This is definitely an act to keep your eye peeled for.

When live music hits the streets of Vancouver for JunoFest and rockers take on NHL greats at the Juno Cup, Victoria’s Acres of Lions will be right in the middle of it all.   The Juno Award events will follow the bands Canadian CD release tour in support of their debut album Working which was released on Cordova Bay Records/Fontana North this month.  The first single “Closer” has already been receiving adds, rotation and enthusiastic response at various rock radio and CBC stations.

“We’re just a little over two weeks into our snowy cross Canada tour and it’s been an amazing journey so far,” says Acres of Lions Tyson Yerex.  “We’re looking forward to getting out to Toronto for CMW in a couple weeks.”  The band will perform on March 12th 9pm at Rok Boutique.

JunoFest takes place on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 at various venues.  Nearly half of the participating line-up has been chosen locally to highlight Vancouver’s rich and diverse music scene, in addition to performances from 2009 JUNO Award nominees and some of Canada’s national touring acts. Acres of Lions will play The Bourbon on March 28th -10:30 pm.

The 6th Annual Juno Cup game presented by The Keg Steakhouse & Bar takes place at the UBC Thunderbird Arena on Friday March 27, 2009. Juno Cup is an ever-growing popular event among fans that mixes music with sport, matching NHL alumni with top artists and entertainers in support of MusiCounts, Canada’s music education charity, associated with CARAS.

This year NHL Greats such as Paul Coffey, Russ Courtnall, Brad Dalgarno,Mark Napier, Mike Pelyk, Bob Probert and Vancouver Canuck Cliff Ronning will lace up against the Rockers.  The Rockers have gathered an enormous roster with artists such as Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo), Tyler Stewart (Barenaked Ladies), Kathleen Edwards, Sarah McLachlan and Cordova Bay artists Tyson Yerex (Acres of Lions) and Cameron Melnyk and Jesse Wainwright (State of Shock).

“Growing up in Edmonton during the 80’s I never imagined that I would get the opportunity to share the ice with any NHL players, let alone former Oiler Paul Coffee,” Yerex explains, “so it’ll truly be an honor for me to be part of the event. I actually managed to bring my skates and stick with me on tour so I’ve been keeping practiced up by hitting outdoor rinks across Canada whenever I can find the time.”

Legendary Santana / Journey Founding Member Gregg Rolie To Release Live DVD

You’ve heard his voice and keyboards on such classic Santana hits as "Black Magic Woman", "Evil Ways", "No One To Depend On", "Everybody’s Everything" and "Oye Como Va", now legendary Santana / Journey founding member, and Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Gregg Rolie is preparing to release a DVD of his band in concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Ralley in 2007. Shot with 17 cameras, the Gregg Rolie Band whip up an exciting memorable performance featuring all the beloved Santana hits, as well as tracks from his 2001 critically acclaimed solo CD ‘Roots’.

Along with preparations for the new DVD release, Gregg Rolie will be featured on the PBS special Trini Lopez Presents The Legends of Latin Music. Filmed at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles last October, the program will be aired in March 2009. Celebrating its 40th Anniversary, this year Warner Home Video’s will be releasing a Blu-ray and DVD Ultimate Collector’s Edition with high definition picture and sound of ‘Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music’, which will also feature two hours of bonus material, some of it newly-discovered. Much to the elation of fans worldwide, extra footage of Santana’s historic Woodstock performance will be included. Held at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas on Saturday March 23, along with Santana alumni Michael Shrieve, Gregg will reside on a discussion panel of performers, filmakers and key technicians who helped create the timeless music classic and Oscar winning ‘Best Documentary’ Woodstock.

"The first time I played with Gregg everything just clicked. In a humble way, it was very much like McCartney and Lennon. You know when there’s chemistry there. Drummers came and went; congeros came and went, but his feeling and my feeling…sometimes it was hard to tell who was the needle and who was the thread." Carlos Santana

Gregg Rolie is responsible for co-founding two phenomenally popular, multi-platinum super groups – Santana and Journey. In 1998, the world class keyboardist/vocalist/producer was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame as part of the original Santana band. Formed in San Francisco in 1969, the multi-cultural ensemble produced three groundbreaking hit albums which yeilded several FM staples. "There’s one unique ability of the band," Gregg told music critic Ben Fong-Torres, "and that was that it created music that there is no name for… Santana’s music is such a jell of different material that there just is no name for it, and there’s no one that plays it like Santana does." Departing after the pioneering jazz fusion offering ‘Caravansarai’ in 1972, both band members Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon went on to form quintessential 1980s hit-makers Journey. After co-writing and producing the band’s first 7 albums, along with c onstant touring, Gregg decided to leave Journey once the hugely successful 1981 live double LP ‘Captured’ was issued. During the ’80s Rolie wrote, produced and played on the Santana albums ‘Shango’ and ‘Freedom’, and released his debut, self-titled 1985 solo album and its 1987 follow-up ‘Gringo’, before co-founding the all-new Journey-esque rock group The Storm at the tail end of the decade. The Storm released two albums: ‘92’s eponymous disc that yielded the #13 Billboard Hot 100 hit "I’ve Got A Lot To Learn About Love" and ‘96’s ‘Eye Of the Storm’. That same year, Rolie, along with five other original Santana members, formed Abraxas Pool, a spirited collaboration that resulted in the 1997 critically acclaimed album of the same name.

Thirty-five years after Gregg and Carlos met in San Francisco, 2001 marked the release of Rolie’s third solo album ‘Roots’. The first-ever release on Bay-Area based Tower Records’ new proprietary label 33rd Street, ‘Roots’ finds Gregg revisiting the incredible brew of sounds he helped conjure up in the late 60’s. Rolie calls Roots’ twelve original selections "Latin rock plus"; the instrumentation is Latin percussion, with organ, guitar, horns, and lots of great solo work and songwriting", adding that "I really wanted to go all the way back to my Santana roots".

The Gregg Rolie Band consists of founding Santana member Michael Carabello on Congas, Adrian Areas (son of original Santana percussionist Jose Chepito Areas) on Timbale s, drummer Ron Wikso (who was also in The Storm), Kurt Griffey on guitars, internationally acclaimed bassist, Chapman Stick artist and Santana alumni Alphonso Johnson and former Jean Luc Ponty keyboardist Wally Minko. "If you are having a good time at anything you do, you are going to do a good job at what you do," Gregg recently told music critic Jim Harrington. "That’s really where the key to this band is. We really just enjoy each other a tremendous amount and have a lot of fun with this. We will get up to playing about 50 dates a year, and really that’s about all I want to do." The Gregg Rolie Band will be performing throughout 2009 with tour dates listed on his official website.

Multi-Platinum rockers Collective Soul, who recently signed a worldwide deal with Loud & Proud Records/Roadrunner Records, have begun work on their 8th studio release, the first release for the label. The band has been hard at work in frontman Ed Roland’s lake house studio for the past few weeks, working on the follow up to 2007’s Afterwords. Renowned for their ability to write supremely crafted smash hits, the band is wasting no time in creating a new batch of tunes fit to replicate all of their past successes.  The band are currently featured on the multi platinum selling soundtrack for Twilight.  ‘Tremble For My Beloved’ from the album Dosage is also featured in the film.

Roland says, “We are only 2 weeks in to the recording of our new album and feel more like a band than ever. It’s reflected in the music, which we all think is our best material to date.”

No strangers to charitable initiatives, Collective Soul is confirmed to headline a special benefit concert for the Save Darfur Coalition, a global organization that represents 130 million people worldwide who have united together to help the victims of Darfur. The concert will take place on Friday, March 27th at the Tabernacle in Atlanta.

In discussing the benefit concert, Roland notes, “As the atrocities continue in Darfur, Collective Soul are honored to lend our voices, along with the youth of Atlanta, to something we feel very strongly about. We continue to educate not only ourselves but the community.”

Globally known for mega-hits such as “Shine,” “December” and “The World I Know,” Collective Soul hails from Atlanta, GA and has produced 7 #1 singles and sold over 10 million records. The band broke into mainstream popularity with their 1993 debut album Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid. The group’s self-titled second album arrived the following year and logged a 76-week run on the Billboard Top 200. 1999’s critically acclaimed Dosage saw Collective Soul further its run as rock radio superstars. The first single "Heavy" set a new high mark for 15-weeks at #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart.  “Tremble For My Beloved” also appears on the gold-certified soundtrack for the hit film Twilight.

The new album is expected summer 2009

Updated SNO-CORE Dates & Venues – STATIC-X ON TOUR

Static-X and Saliva co-headline on Sno-Core, as it returns for its 13th year hitting the road April 1, 2009 in Albuquerque, NM.  The touring festival is the original winter lifestyle traveling fair featuring live music, and an integrated marketing experience.

Static-X will be hammering out their heaviest, most flammable work to date at Sno-Core 2009 in support of their new release CULT OF STATIC, on Reprise Records. The album marries the band’s aggressive driving force with disarming experimentation, a performance you do not want to miss.

“The vocals on the new record are raw and brutal.” The fiery raw quality of CULT OF STATIC is blatant as the first single “Stingwray” now on the  airwaves is climbing to the top.
