Liverpool 8’s 12 original tracks were all co-written by Ringo and were recorded in England and in California. “The writing of the records is always the same,” Ringo explains. “It’s the same group of guys and we all sit together and write about what’s happening.” That “group of guys” who joined Ringo on the album’s songwriting and recording are (in alphabetical order): Gary Burr, Steve Dudas, Mark Hudson, Sean Hurley, Zac Rae, and Dave Stewart.

Since beginning his career in the 1960s with The Beatles, Ringo Starr has been one of the world’s brightest musical luminaries.  He has enjoyed a successful and dynamic solo career as a singer, songwriter and drummer, an active musical collaborator, and as an actor.  Drawing inspiration from classic blues, soul, country, honky-tonk and rock ‘n’ roll, Ringo continues to play an important role in modern music with his solo recording and touring. His last studio album, Choose Love, was released in 2005.

Ringo has said that as time goes on there is more and more of his personality in his music, and the songs on Liverpool 8 feel personal. His candor, wit and soul are evident in the lyrics and the heartbeat of every song; I always followed my heart and I never missed a beat. Peace and love are Ringo Starr’s primary life beats, and Liverpool 8 propels this universal message in each of its evocative songs, which are imbued with joy, insight, reflection and wisdom from the music icon the world knows and loves simply as ‘Ringo.’

Miami rockers Black Tide are proud to announce a February 26 release date for their debut album, “Light From Above.” The album will be released on Interscope Records. Black Tide recorded the album at Chicago’s Groovemaster Studios, with Johnny K (Disturbed, Machine Head, Soil) producing.

Black Tide’s music draws from the best hard rock and thrash from the 80s, while giving it a 21st century kick up the ass. “Shockwave,” the band’s calling card and the album’s opening track, is an utter classic — all bloody-knuckled thrash riffs, squealing guitars, rampaging drums, in-your-face vocals and an instantly memorable chorus.

The rest of Light From Above is up to the same impressive standard; anthemic, take-no-prisoners tracks like “Shout,” “Black Abyss,”  “Let Me,” “Live Fast Die Young,” the Maiden-esque “Warriors of Time” and their spot-on cover of Metallica’s “Hit The Lights” will punch any metal fan squarely in their pleasure centers.

Black Tide are wrapping up a successful run with Avenged Sevenfold, and are gearing up for what promises to be a HUGE year in 2008! Look out for “Light From Above” when it hits streets on February 26.

Memphis, Tennessee’s Egypt Central will be releasing their self-titled debut in January 2008 on Fat Lady Records in conjunction with Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group (ILG). Egypt Central, featuring John T. Falls (vocals), Joey Chicago (bass), Heath Hindman (guitar), Blake Allison (drums), and Jeff James (guitar), originally recorded the album in 2006, which was mixed by Josh Abraham (Velvet Revolver, Korn, Linkin Park).

Once the band signed with Fat Lady Records/ILG in 2007, they went back into the studio to retool the album. With the help of mixer Paul David Hagar and mastered by legendary George Marino, the insanely catchy, hard-driven disc was re-mixed, re-mastered, and re-sequenced, taking it to another level!

The first single, “You Make Me Sick” debuted at #38 this week on the BDS Active Rock chart behind early supporters like WIIL/Chicago, WIYY/Baltimore, WRIF/Detroit, KXFX/Santa Rosa (Top 10 Phones), KZRQ/Springfield, Sirius and XM.

Egypt Central’s track, “Over and Under,” was featured in the major motion picture, “The Condemned.” That exposure led to appearances on both Ozzfest and the Family Values Tour.

Foster care, rehabs, homelessness, signed to a major label and dropped – the band’s self titled debut CD tells the story of their lives – an ever changing collage of lost love, frustration, broken dreams, but with the determination to rise and succeed.

“Life is what you make of it,” says Falls. “We’re not vengeful people, and we would never let any negative energy ruin how great it feels to have an album out. After all the work we put in, it’s the greatest feeling ever and I don’t think it would be so gratifying had we not been through everything we’ve experienced.”

Egypt Central will be touring in Early 2008 to support the January release of their self-titled debut, with more huge dates to come!

22-Track Collection Features 14 Top 20 Hits From the World’s First Teen Idol, Including the #1 Smash “Poor Little Fool”

Release Date: January 15, 2008

In the 1950s, Ricky Nelson brought tender ballads and rock ‘n’ roll to living rooms across America, co-starring in his parents’ weekly hit, “The Ozzie and Harriet Show.” For the first time, his most romantic recordings have been collected for a new CD and digital album, Ricky Nelson: Greatest Love Songs, to be released January 15 by Capitol/EMI, just in time for Valentine’s Day.  The 22-track collection features 14 Top 20 hits, including the #1 smash, “Poor Little Fool.” Two Ricky Nelson ringtunes will also debut on January 15.

Ricky Nelson became famous for the string of tender ballads he recorded throughout the 1950s, many of which he debuted on “The Ozzie and Harriet Show,” sparking clamoring demand across the country for each of his new singles. But his recording career began almost as a fluke.

One night in 1957, Nelson was on a date with a young lady who swooned over an Elvis Presley song playing on the radio. In a move to impress her, Nelson fibbed that he, too, was cutting a record, and the girl laughed in his face. Nelson entered a recording studio, sang a cover of Fats Domino’s “I’m Walking,” and played it on “The Ozzie and Harriet Show.” Within a week, the record had sold one million copies, an unheard of figure for the time. The track went to #2 on the Billboard chart and the b-side, “A Teenager’s Romance,” reached #2 as well.

From then on, Nelson performed a song at the end of every broadcast and quickly became the first teen idol (as coined by Life magazine). He played with a backing band that included bassists James Kirkland and Joe Osborn, and legendary guitarist James Burton.

On December 31, 1985, while en route from Alabama to a New Year’s Eve show in Dallas, Nelson’s DC-3 crashed in a field near DeKalb, Texas. None of the passengers survived.

Nelson was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. Although he made his last recordings more than 20 years ago, Nelson’s music remains timeless.

“To this day I consider Ricky Nelson one of the true pioneers of rock & roll.” – John Fogerty (Rolling Stone, “The Immortals” – April 21, 2005)

Ricky Nelson’s most recent Capitol CD and DVD collections, Greatest Hits and Ricky Nelson Sings, respectively, were released in December 2005 to mark the 20th anniversary of his death.  With first week sales of more than 18,000 units, the career-spanning Greatest Hits was Nelson’s highest chart debut since Garden Party’s debut in 1972, and Ricky Nelson Sings, which debuted many of his classic “Ozzie and Harriet” performances on DVD, was soon certified gold.

“Before I could play a guitar I used to take a tennis racket, stand in front of the mirror and pretend I was singing Ricky Nelson songs to my dream girl,” says Chris Isaak. “This was pretty much job training for my future. Nobody ever rocked so hard and looked so laid back at the same time. There is only one Ricky Nelson.”

Ricky Nelson played a pivotal role in the development of rock ‘n’ roll, and there is no question that he remains one of the 20th Century’s most intriguing entertainment icons.

Silverchair will release the iTunes exclusive EP on Tuesday, December 18 entitled The Greatest View EP. The six track collection features the current single “The Greatest View” which was originally on Silverchair’s 2003 release Diorama and will be stripped onto 2008 editions of Young Modern plus a remix of “Straight Lines” by The Presets, Two previously unreleased Young Modern B-Sides and two videos. Full track listing is below.
“The Greatest View” is currently receiving major airplay across the country including such stations as Q101/Chicago, 99X/Atlanta, WFNX/Boston, KDGE/Dallas, Sirius, XM and Music Choice.
A little known fact is that Silverchair lead singer/guitar player and The Presets leader Julian Hamilton are great friends thanks to their Australian roots and similar musical interests. Julian actually co-wrote the smash hit “Straight Lines” along with three other tracks off Young Modern and has been a touring member of Silverchair when he has the time. Julian and Kim from the Presets were also touring members of the Dissociatives – Daniel’s ‘other band’ with Paul Mac. Closing the circle, Daniel contributed guitar work for past Presets records as well as helping write some tunes with them so it’s a family affair. The Presets have a new album set for early ’08 release.  For a STREAMING link to Silverchair – “Straight Lines” {The Presets Remix} click here:

Silverchair is on the verge of finishing up the second leg of their sold out US tour before heading back to Australia for the holidays. They will headline that country’s Big Day Out tour in January alongside Rage Against The Machine, Bjork and Arcade Fire. Expect to see the band back in the U.S. in early 2008.

“‘Young Modern Station’ features frontman Daniel John’s soaring falsetto and hi-hat-driven chorus that the Killers wish they would have written for their latest disc. ‘Insomnia’ is a carnival-inspired orchestral rocker that sounds like Queen meets My Chemical Romance, and the Beatlesque “Reflections Of A Sound” features a pop sensibility that’s remarkably advanced for musicians still in their 20’s” – Cleveland Free Times

After much speculation…the wait is finally over.
JOURNEY–Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums)–is proud to introduce fans all over the world to their new lead singer, Arnel Pineda (“pin-eh-da”).  He replaces Jeff Scott Soto, who parted ways with the band earlier this year after stepping in for Steve Augeri, who had to leave the band in 2006 for medical reasons.

Arnel hails from Quezon City in the Philippines and has been singing Journey songs–in addition to original material–with his band, The Zoo, for the past couple of years in clubs all over his homeland.  Joining the legendary band is a dream come true for him.

“It’s so exciting to sing with one of the best bands in the world.  It’ll be a lot of hard work on my part and I’m actually looking forward to the scrutiny I’ll get from the hardcore JOURNEY fans.  I know they’ll expect me to sound exactly like ‘the voice’ (Steve Perry), but that will never happen.  I know there’s only one Steve Perry in this world.”

When it was time for JOURNEY to look for a new lead singer, the internet came to their rescue.  Guitarist Neal Schon wanted someone new to the music business, so he turned to YouTube.  After finding Arnel singing “Faithfully,” he knew he had found the perfect frontman.

“I was frustrated about not having a singer,” explains guitarist Neal Schon, “so I went on YouTube for a couple of days and just sat on it for hours.  I was starting to think I was never going to find anybody.  But then I found The Zoo and I watched a bunch of different video clips that they had posted.  After watching the videos over and over again, I had to walk away from the computer and let what I heard sink in because it sounded too good to be true.  I thought, ‘he can’t be that good.’  But he is that good, he’s the real deal and so tremendously talented.  Arnel doesn’t sound synthetic and he’s not emulating anyone.  I tried to get a hold of him through YouTube and I finally heard from him that night, but it took some convincing to get him to believe that it really was me and not an imposter.”

Arnel Pineda picks up the story:  “My friend Noel picked up the message on YouTube and told me it was from Neal.  I thought it was a hoax so I ignored it.  Noel said, ‘what if it really was Neal and he wanted to offer you the chance of a lifetime?’  So I e-mailed Neal back and the rest is history.”

“Arnel brings a soulful and passionate voice to JOURNEY,” continues keyboardist Jonathan Cain.  “His personality is very well-suited to our music.  He’s a sincere, authentic person with a great smile and a big heart.  I think fans are really going to love him.  With Arnel’s soaring tenor, Journey returns to our heritage sound.”

Schon agrees, “We feel reborn.  I think there’s a lot of chemistry between the five of us.  At first we were going to go into the studio and just write 4 songs, but now it’s escalated to a lot of great new and diverse material.  The stuff sounds tremendous.  Everyone’s so stoked about it.  We feel very fortunate to have found Arnel.”

JOURNEY is currently working on a new album with legendary producer Kevin Shirley, which they hope to release by spring/summer 2008.  Details will be announced early next year.

Dearly Beloved is returning to the indie rock scene with their sophomore album RepoRepoRepo which they decided to make available digitally last week on itunes, puretracks, maple music and others while a retail CD release is being planned for March 2008. Since their debut You Are The Jaguar in 2006 the band has toured with their explosive live shows while receiving critical praise from coast to coast.
Singer / bassist Rob Higgins and crew serve up another fresh joint of their eclectic, punk-inspired rock. Niva Chow (singer / rock tigress) of Sticky Rice; guitarist Damon Richardson, formerly of Danko Jones and Change of Heart and drummer Hayden Menzies comprise this slightly leaner version of the badass Canadian band that in 2006 would play 40 shows in 60 days, each like it could be their last, and still return home hungry for more.

Higgins, who is known for his work with the bands Change of Heart, By Divine Right, Tristan Psionic, Rocket Science, Doctor and for touring with Our Lady Peace as their bass player from time to time, is celebrating his first sophomore album.  “I’ve been fortunate enough to have 6 records released in the 11 years I’ve been writing,” says Higgins, “but I was never lucky enough to get the chance to create a follow-up.”
The first single and video will be “Candy Coated” while other stand out tracks include “Who Knows?”, which says it all.  It’s a song about coming to terms with the idea that the older you get, the wiser you get and the less you know.  With “Carnivale” Higgins explains that “the lyrics are pretty abstract – cloaked in metaphor and falling on top of each other – and musically the song is like mashing up Velvet Underground and Rush – which is truly bizarre (Geddy Lee is Higgins’ uncle), but I love that sort of juxtaposition – always have.”  “Unsee” is a tragically beautiful cut with lyrics that are dark but heartfelt, personal and emotional.  Higgins calls it this album’s “The Butler Routine”, the psych-pop gem from You Are The Jaguar that became a staple on MuchMoreMusic and avant video channel Bravo!
An insomniac, workaholic and avid fan of ice hockey, Higgins has recently decided to forego sleeping entirely and pull double-duty as an on-air personality and Fantasy Hockey Expert for XM Radio and, “I talk about hockey – on the radio – it’s like a dream – I’m still in shock really – it’s dark when I get up.”  And working for the Great One himself no less!   With XM’s membership approaching half a million and Rob’s weekly appearances on the nationally broadcasted Live From Gretzky’s radio show Higgins has been rubbing his shoulders with hockey legends and personalities – and leaving a mark of his own!

For now Dearly Beloved will continue to tour taking them wherever the road may lead. Audiences everywhere can expect more rock, more great songs and a better Dearly Beloved that will still make you wanna shake yer ass, only now a little bit harder.

What the press is saying….
“One minute they might be a snarling, drunken rock machine, the next a dreamy, quirky alt unit.  Either way, the music stays fresh, which is why Toronto’s Dearly Beloved is onto something.”- Evan Davies, NOW Magazine
“The grit of old school punk, the guitars of the new rock revival and a touch of the Velvet Underground.  A worthy addition to the indie scenester’s collection.”- Paul Budel, Chart Magazine
“Like a pack of junkies playing for their smack…hard-hitting, hook-heavy rock’n roll…A short and sweet set aided vocally by rock tigress Niva Chow.”-Lorraine Carpenter, Exclaim! Magazine
“A vital indie rock record.” – John Kendle, Uptown Magazine
â€œAn artful and dynamic melodic rock unit combining elements of Higgins past project into a fresh, distinct new sound.”- Chuck Molgat, Prairie Dog Magazine
“People better start paying serious attention to Dearly Beloved.  They just might be the most original rock band going in Toronto.” -Erin Taylor, Scene and Heard Magazine

Environmental solutions provider BidForGreen announced today that they will be fuelling the famed rock band Styx and Tommy Shaw’s side project Shaw/Blades in 2007-2008.

BidForGreen, which fuels Willie Nelson, Pat Matheny and Merle Haggard among others, will provide biodiesel and logistics for the tours. The service has been popular with artists, who get access to quality biofuel, and to drivers, who get help with logistics and delivery.

Tommy Shaw, legendary guitarist and singer for Styx and Shaw/Blades, wrote a blog for BidForGreen highlighting his interest in the company’s services: “Bid For Green is doing what needed to be done–creating a data base of fuel suppliers and setting up accounts so that it has been made even easier for us to use biodiesel than to spend the time fueling up in the stinky line at the truck stop, something we’ve all accepted as part of traveling by tour bus.”

Shaw/Blades—Styx/Damn Yankees guitarist/vocalist Tommy Shaw and Night Ranger/Damn Yankees bassist/vocalist Jack Blades—is currently touring the U.S. in support of their critically acclaimed INFLUENCE album, which was released March 6 on VH1 Classic Records.

BidForGreen President Dale Wiley was ecstatic with the addition of Styx and Shaw/Blades to their roster. “Many of my teenage hours were spent listening to ‘Blue Collar Man’ and ‘Renegade.’ Tommy Shaw is really ahead of the curve on environmental issues, and it is a pleasure to work with him.”

Shaw’s blog on the environment can be viewed at Shaw also conducted an interview with BidForGreen, which can be seen on the site.

Former Zappa Vocalist CD Re-Issue Feat. Steve Vai

Bob Harris, keyboardist/vocalist of the 1980 Frank Zappa band with guitarists Steve Vai, Ray White and Ike Willis, keyboardist Tommy Mars, bassist Arthur Barrow and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, will soon have his 1986 album The Great Nostalgia released in an expanded format by Crossfire Publications. The Great Nostalgia, originally a self-financed release on his Mastahna label, has been remastered (and in some cases remixed) from the original session tapes.

More than twenty-one years after its first release, The Great Nostalgia has been expanded by six additional tracks. Frank Zappa heard the album in 1986 and thought that the track “Ageless Love” was outstanding and should kick off the album. Bob Harris, who is currently working with ’80s rock legends Axe, wanted to change the song order because he highly valued Zappa’s opinion, but the album had already been pressed. Out of respect for Frank Zappa, “Ageless Love” is now the first track on Crossfire’s reissue, and Jeremy Barber’s violin has replaced the original keyboard emulation of that instrument.

Suzannah (Thana) Harris, known to Zappa fans for her vocals on the revised Sleep Dirt album, can be found throughout The Great Nostalgia on the tracks “Ageless Love,” “The Flower” and three of the bonus tracks. Of the additions to the album, Thana and Bob’s duets on the standard “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” (live at the Zappanale 13 festival) and It’s A Beautiful Day’s “White Bird” (from Thana’s album Thanatopsis) are obvious highlights.

Guitar legend Steve Vai played electric sitar on “Autumn In Nepal,” presented here in Vai’s remixed version. He also played lead guitar on a remixed version of the bonus track “There’s Still Hope.” Fellow FZ band member Tommy Mars played on “Autumn In Nepal,” and noted bassist Stuart Hamm contributed to the track “The Flower.” Billy James, known to music fans as the Ant-Bee, played percussion on the entire album. James’ tasteful use of percussion instead of drum machines is a very important asset to the longevity of The Great Nostalgia, as it sounds fresh without the usual ‘80s trappings.

One instrumental track recorded at the original sessions, “The Blue Gazebo,” has been included on this edition. Two more recent tracks complete the album: the brilliant piano ballad “Magnet And Iron” and “Nobody Wins In A War,” featuring sped-up vocals from Bob, Thana and son Nathan Harris.

The Great Nostalgia will be available at retail and through dozens of paid download services.

If you’ve been wondering where all the drunk punk kids have been hanging out, then go check out a Black Lips show, and you’ll find them throwing beer at each other, stage diving, crowd surfing, and putting the kind of spark back into live music that so recently seems to have been replaced by ubiquitous head-nodding hipsters. The Black Lips exude a raunchy energy onstage that is shared by very few bands out there today. They play a fast, propulsive set that does not relent in the slightest—despite their crazy stage antics, they are a tight band, and execute their music in a way that is completely inundated by their bawdry signature style, with wild, young fury and reckless energy. With spit and sweat flying, random onstage kissing sessions between members, summersaults, and beer chugging all the while ensuing, the Black Lips prove that this brand of dynamism still exists in rock ‘n’ roll. Now let’s just hope they never grow up. – CRAWDADDY

Introducing Alpha Galates!

Make no mistake, the sum total of Toronto progressive metal outfit  Alpha Galates’ debut album “A Stimulus For Reason” is heavy, crushing and note-dense beyond belief.   All of that barely begins to describe the wide-angled hard rock complexity – as well as the surging, roiling intensity – as some of these  startlingly epic  tracks build toward fraught fruition.
An immediate influence that comes to mind is Tool, but then it’s not hard to start feeling the Opeth vibe deep within the record’s dark, lush landscapes, as well as a certain Roger Waters solo vibe, maybe Porcupine Tree, and even, on occasion, some  blistering riffage in the vein of Iron Maiden and Megadeth.
Alpha Galates’ debut album “A Stimulus For Reason” — mixed by Joe Barresi (Tool, QOTSA, The Melvins) and slated for Feb.12 .2008 release via EMI Music Canada — encapsulates  the ferocious energy of the band’s live show into 11 tracks of pure, unadulterated progressive metal.
Also available on February 12 is a deluxe edition of “A Stimulus For Reason” containing 5.1 surround mixes of tracks from the album and 3 bonus tracks, including a special remix of ‘Passion’.
Check out the first single  ‘Standing’  from “A Stimulus For Reason” here: . .

The US release will include a pair of bonus tracks not packaged with the UK version, and will be available on LP, CD and in digital format. While Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo are currently trekking across Europe, the duo is planning a US tour behind the record in March, centered around a host of appearances at SXSW in Austin, Texas. If you missed the premiere at Stereogum earlier this month, here’s another chance to check Lust Lust Lust’s first track, the cavernous, reverb-drenched Aly Walk With Me.
