American Angel is, as the name implies a Hard Rock band and VANITY is their second release, their first being a self titled debut which saw the light of day back in 1989 on Grudge/BMG. It would be an understatement to say that it’s been a very long fifteen year wait for the band but as they say, better late than never.

First off I must say that VANITY offers nothing new to the style, but Hard Rock was never about innovation, it was all about huge choruses and killer hooks which this album has in spades. “While I’m Away”, “Turns To Grey” and “Warm Inside” highlight this quite well and should please fans of Bon Jovi, Skid Row and Warrant to no end. The heart of the band is without a doubt vocalist Rocco Fury who adds all the sheen and dynamics needed to take these songs a step further. As is the case with most Hard Rock acts, a band is only as good as its vocalist and its true here as American Angel is a better band with Rocco as their frontman.

I’ll round up this review up by saying that if you long for that genuine 80’s Hard Rock sound then you should check out American Angel. VANITY is an honest album if anything and will sit alongside your collection without much problem.
