Thematically similar to the new Massmurder, but musically not as distinctive, hardcore Death Metal aficionados are more likely to purchase this based on the demented LP cover than anything out of the ordinary on the CD itself. This is strictly business-as-usual brutal Death Metal.
Musically, the band fails to truly distinguish itself until halfway through the disc, when the stunning Thrash-inspired riffing of “Fingering The Rot” kicks in. Layered guitar harmonies amid Ben Deskins’ unsettling vocal croaks and belches dive head-on into maddening aggression, making it the album’s stand-out cut. “Postmortem Fluid Evacuation” continues the sick trend, with a series of crushing breakdowns and tempo-changes. Achieving the mid-record trifecta, the record’s title cut next bludgeons your senses with one series of lightning-fast riffs after another. Sadly, this peak is short-lived, and the record descends back into chaos.
Clearly, the musicianship is excellent, even if the recording itself is unspectacular. Guitarist Tony Tipton is obviously the star of this band, and it shows in the production””as quite often the drums and bass get the shaft on this recording. This is a shame, as drummer Jason Trecazzi is a powerful, forceful musician; unfortunately, you’d never know from the way his drums were mixed. The drumming over all carries an irritating tinny, clanging sound most prominent on tracks like “Defecation Delicacy”””a track he might otherwise have shined on.
Perhaps a greater sense of identity and improved production might make this band more memorable; until then, they are just another croaking blast-beat band.
