Let’s get doomed a bit more for a while. The Obsessed, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre and let’s say, even Cathedral? Let’s bring in Funeral Planet for a short introduction then.
The Finnish foursome aren’t strangers to most of the people as far as the band’s line-up goes. The line-up consists of ex-members of such Finnish disbanded acts as God Forsaken and G.G. Spirit, so there is definitely more than a pocketful of a sheer experience involved in the line-up, just no doubts of that.
The three songs that they have recorded for the BORN IN BLACK demo aren’t meant to shake the ground below your feet in the very first place at all. As a matter of speaking, Funeral Planet’s own approach toward the sounds of Doom Metal is familiar to most of our ears. They don’t have any extra aces up the sleeves of their hippie jackets to offer to an experienced Doom Metal listener, but rather obey the evergreen, already existing recipes of the ´80s Doom Metal sound. However, Planet Funeral’s relatively “safe” and “condom-tight” approach in the world of doom metal doesn’t make me break my leg in excitement, but it leaves me kind of in a standby state to expect a bit more from them regarding their forth-coming material in the coming months.
BORN IN BLACK is a promising start for Funeral Planet, but I guess we have got every right to except a little bit more from them in the future.
