This cassette has seen some serious misadventures since coming into my possession. The details of which shall remain secret. Rainmaker888 is a new band from the United Kingdom featuring Zak Bajjon (ex-Witchfinder General, ex-Lionsheart) on lead vocals and bass, Rishi Mehta (ex-Cradle of Filth): guitar, Ryk Swillo: guitar, Mark Cooper on drums and Benjamin Ryan (ex-Cradle of Filth, ex-Blood Divine) on keyboards. Rainmaker888 create a brand of metal in the vein of Lefay and Nevermore. In their own words Rainmaker888 “combines powerful riffs and driving rhythms which contrast with instant melodies, creating their own epic brand of dark avant-garde metal”. That about sums them up. The demo is only 4 songs, 2 of which are just rough 8 track mixes. The opening track is “Killing Words”. This is a ripper of a track with lots of double bass drums along with keyboards to add a very cool counterpoint. “Forgive Me” is even heavier and except for Bajjon’s growling vocals this song, while not sounding like Nevermore, would not be out of place on one of their discs. Up next are the two 8 track roughs. Outside of the production obviously being of demo quality these 2 songs are great! “The Rainmaker” is probably my favourite song. On this track they go for a more straight ahead metal assault with lots of guitars and double bass. The demo closes out with “Magick Rooms”. This is a very up tempo track that reminds me of Lefay with its vocals and guitar attack.

Rainmaker888 are not exactly newcomers to the metal scene. Zak Bajjon has been around for years so he knows what it takes to make a great metal disc. The guitar core of Mehta and Swillo create a riff laden tracks which are augmented by the heavy bottom of Cooper and Bajjon.. Zak Bajjon is a great vocalist whose voice fits well with the music. The production of the demo is not the greatest but that is expected, especially when 2 tracks are eight track roughs. Venom have taken Rainmaker888 on tour with them so if Zak and the boys and good enough for Chronos and Mantas they are good enough for me. Check out more about Rainmaker888 www.zip.to/rainmaker
