Well, well, the mother of all motherlodes. I was anxious when I heard this was in the works, and it’s been worth the wait. Personally, I’m gettin’ pretty tired of this whole tribute thing, but this ones a gem!!!!! Comprising of two discs, Holy Dio covers many chapters of Dio’s career – Black Sabbath, Rainbow, and his solo work as well.
Well, where do I start…..Blind Guardian open it in fine style with “Don’t talk to Strangers” followed by Primal Fear’s vocal exercise on “Kill the King.” Doro shines on the pain-ridden “Egypt (The Chains Are On)” as Kai Hanson & co. on the classic “Long Live Rock-N-Roll.” Hammerfall are equally impressive on “The Man on The Silver Mountain.” Of particular interest is “Country Girl” by Swano-Tagtren, as the vocals are done in a different key, and it works very nicely. Only complaint would be the fact that “Kill the King” is on it twice by different artists, as one could have done a different track. All in all, a great package, one sure to make Dio proud!
