When Fear Factory released their first album, SOUL OF A NEW MACHINE three years ago, it was hailed as one of the most original death metal albums to be released. Now three years later, Fear Factory\’s anxiously awaited second album Demanufacture delivers a hard driving blend of hardcore, death, and industrial music which will certainly have the most skeptical of listeners totally enthralled after one listen.

Burton C. Bell\’s vocals have matured since the last album. His blend of death meets melody creates just the right moods to fit the lyrics. The songs which best demonstrate this technique are \”Zero Signal\”, \”Self Bias Resistor\”, and \”Pisschrist\”. This self proclaimed \”dry lung vocal martyr\” proves also that he has not totally abandoned his pure hardcore style, as evident on the songs \”Demanufacture\”, \”New Breed\”, and \”H-K (Hunter Killer)\”.

The band, rounded out by guitarist Dino Cazares, drummer Raymond Herrera, and new bassist Christian Olde Wolbers, have put together an album full of songs for everyone. \”Dog Day Sunrise\” is a brilliant Head Of David cover that Fear Factory belts out, while \”A Therapy For Pain\” is a doom oriented song that is sure to provoke some dark emotions from their listeners. The band also tackle some hard and disturbing issues, \”Replica\” deals with children conceived through rape, \”Body Hammer\” takes on the issue of government experimentation, and \”Flashpoint\” deals with life in an urban hell.

Fear Factory have definitely matured musically since their first outing. Produced by Colin Richardson (Carcass, Machine Head) and mixed by Greg Reely and Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly), DEMANUFACTURE never falters and never slows down. The drums are always moving while the guitar is always blasting. Sure to be a hit with Fear Factory fans, DEMANUFACTURE is sure to grab a hold of a whole new group of devotees. If you are a serious metal fan, this is one album you must buy. This album delivers one hell of a punch that is sure to bring you back screaming for more.
