Classic Pick

Witchfinder General - Friends of Hell

Non-Metal Pick
"Heavy Metal, Or No Metal At All, Wimps and Posers, Leave The Hall"

Recommended Viewing:
Metal DVD's: Jag Panzer - The Era Of Kings & Conflict
Movie: Forbidden Zone

Recommended Reading:

Martin Popoff's "The Collector's Guide To Heavy Metal" is excellent. I've worn out my twelve-year old copy from cover to cover and still go back to it from time to time for further perusing and abusing.

Extended Profile

Metal-Rules.com name: stormhammer
Real name: Robert Williams
E-mail address: stormhammer22@hotmail.com
Age: 30 something
Birthplace: San Jose, California, USA
Present location: Austin, Texas, USA

Tattoos/Piercings: Tattoos - A cloven hoofed angel of death dragging a flying V guitar on my right shoulder and a demonic upside down bat and a black widow on my left shoulder.

Job(s) @ Metal Rules: Interviews in both text and video formats, CD reviews and the occasional concert review. I also organize website contest giveaways every now and again.

Length of Time with MR: My first interview for the website was with Monstrosity conducted during the summer of 2006.

Best thing about working for MR: I have truly enjoyed meeting and talking metal with many of my favorite metal bands from many different countries across the globe. This position has afforded me some long lasting friendships and sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure this all isn't a slumbering lunatic's dream. If you would have told me five years ago the places I would go, the people I'd meet and the things I'd see and hear along the way I'm pretty sure my head would have exploded upon command. Being a journalist for metal-rules.com has provided me with countless memories and a greater insight into how things operate behind the scenes in the music industry. You really can't put a pricetag on this kind of experience. Thank you Geoff and metal-rules.com

Worst thing about working for MR: If I were to answer this question fairly, you would have to appreciate that as a journalist you are a victim of circumstances. By that I mean it would be easy for me to list my number one pet peeve "I cannot stand people who don't have their shit together" but it's often not that simple. Band schedules will run late from time to time, rain will piss down from the heavens on to you and your equipment, publicists will bump you for a more mainstream publication after you show up for a confirmed interview, tour managers will interrupt your interview at the most in-opportune times... That's just the tip of the iceberg. All of these issues come with the territory, you can't whine about it, you just accept it and march onward flying the flag of the most awesome metal-zine of all time.

How/when you first got into metal: I was ten years old in 1990 and watching the Moscow Music Peace Festival on Mtv. Then all of a sudden Skid Row took the stage with a blistering set and the rest is history.

Favorite Metal Genre(s): Heavy Metal is my favorite, although I am a huge fan of many subgenres of metal including Power, Speed, Thrash, NWOBHM, Death, Doom and even some Black Metal.

Least favorite Metal Genre(s): I do not like NSBM or bands that purposely release sloppy music with
awful production values.

First Metal CD ever bought: I cannot remember my first metal CD, but my first album by a band was Skid Row's self titled debut  on cassette...

First Metal concert: Yet again, Skid Row in March of 1990 on tour in Portland, Oregon in support of Aerosmith on the Pump tour.

Band or other music experience: I played drums for the Epic Blackened War Metal band "Of the Fallen" from 1999-2001 and recorded the Sign the Spell CD with them during my time in the band. Currently I play lead guitar for a Heavy Metal band called Witches Mark. We have released one EP so far and have a full-length record on the way.

Favorite bands/artists: Iron Maiden is my all time favorite band. I am into late seventies and early to mid eighties metal bands the most, though I do seek out more current bands when they catch my attention.

Least favorite bands/artists: I'm not big on bands that are overly folky or symphonic, there has to be that overwhelming metal feel to grab my attention. Don't water down the metal. Don't do it.

Most overrated bands/artists: It does not concern me who is popular or not, I like what I like.

Most underrated bands/artists: Angel Witch should have been huge, ditto for Lost Horizon.

Top 10 Metal Albums:

1.  Iron Maiden - Any of the early stuff with Bruce or Paul
2.  Judas Priest - Unleashed In The East
3.  Angel Witch - Angel Witch
4.  Lost Horizon - Awakening The World
5.  Destruction - The Antichrist
6.  Manowar - Hail To England
7.  Accept - Breaker
8.  Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil
9.  KISS - Alive
10. Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus

CD you hate to admit is part of your collection: I have recently cleansed my impeccable aphabetically organized CD collection of any traces of undesirableness. I now have a medium sized cardboard box next to my collection that is full of CD's that PR firms and labels have mailed to me for review purposes that I did not see fit to include with my master collection. Someday I will figure out what to do with all of it. You would be really surprised what some publicists try and pawn off as metal.

Spoken Languages: English only, sorry...

Hobbies: I currently enjoy getting rowdy at WWE live events and have always held an interest in competitive binge eating contests though I have yet to try my luck at it.

Pet peeves: Life's too short.

Favorite drink: Long Island Iced Tea, Shiner Bock in a can

Which song should be played at your funeral: "I Love The Dead" by Alice Cooper

Person you'd most like to meet:

Alive: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest (again), Kevin Heybourne (Angel Witch), Ace Frehley, Jack Starr, Sebastian Bach, ManO'war, Wojtek Lisicki, Andrew Dice Clay, Kurt Angle and Bret "The Hitman" Hart.

Deceased: Ronnie James Dio, Jon Nodtveit, Curt Hennig, Vlad the Impaler, Rhett Forrester, Euronymous, Dead, Cliff Burton, Chuck Schuldiner (again) and lots more.

Final comments about yourself: If I come to your town, I hope you will take me out to eat and buy me lots of drinks.
