Street Dogs
Fading American Dream
2006, DRT Entertainment/ Bass Tacks Records/Sound Pollution
Rating: 3.5/5
Street Dogs hails from Boston, and the members are all involved in other famous acts like Dropkick Murphys and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Just like in their original bands, Street Dogs plays dirty and drunken Irish-influenced punk rock.
Lead vocals and angry guitar riffs dominate the production and in some songs members from both Flogging Molly and The Pogues make guest appearances. The 13 tracks are delivered in a really fast tempo and the lyrics seem to very political with titles like “There is a Power in the Union”, “Fading American Dream”, and “Sell Your Lies”.
Even if the music and songs are quite simple, it’s really catchy and definitely a party starter. The album works both as a wake up call and as drinking buddy without a doubt.
It’s really fun to hear such a great album in these soft-punk-bands days; I highly recommend it to fans of above mentioned bands. Killer tracks are “Common People”, “Not without a Purpose”, “Power in a Union”, “Tobe’s got a Drinking Problem”, “Shards of Life”, “Sell Your Lies”, “Hardluck Kid”, and “Final Transmission”.
Mike McColgan – lead vocals
Johnny Rioux – bass
