Lynyrd Skynyrd
God & Guns
2009, Roadrunner Records
Rating: 4.5/5

The legendary Southern Rockers give us a new disc of a dozen new tunes to savour and enjoy. On this release, GOD & GUNS we get more of the same great music we have grown accustomed to getting from the band in the past decade. In fact this one is their best release since TWENTY which came out over ten years ago.

On GOD & GUNS we find a more mature band who’s lyrics tend to center around family life ; “Simple Life” and their country; “That Ain’t My America” and “God & Guns”. Musically they are on top of their game as this is their strongest releases. Johnny can still belt out the tunes whether it’s a rocker or a ballad. There are a few songs on here that are destined to become staples in their live set for years to come and the full throttle rocker  “Comin’ Back For More” is one of them.

GOD & GUNS is a great Skynyrd disc and it’s only downfall is the over the top patriotic BS that some artists feel is their duty to shove down the throats of the rest of the world. It is one thing to be proud of your homeland but there is a limit.
