Honeymoon Suite
Clifton Hill

2008, Koch
Rating: 4.5/5

Canadian Rock sensations Honeymoon Suite release the long over due follow-up to 2002’s LEMON TONGUE. The new disc; CLIFTON HILL picks up where LEMON TONGUE left off yet it brings them back to THE BIG PRIZE.

As soon as you put the disc on you are hit with the rocker “She Ain’t Alright” which in true Honeymoon Suite fashion is extremely catchy and has some great little guitar licks throughout. Next up is “Tired O’ Waitin’ On You” which starts out with a great vocal by Johnnie before kicking into a heavy rocker with more of that classic guitar sound. Speaking of the guitar sound: Derry has plenty of it on “Riffola” which is true to it’s name. They slow it down slightly for “Ordinary” which gives Johnnie a chance to really shine with his vocals. His vocals along with Derry’s guitar have always been an excellent pairing as is demonstrated on this album. Songs like “Down 2 Bizzness” confirm this as does the incredible guitar driven “That’s All U Got” and “Restless” with their true to life lyrics. There is even a blues based mid-tempo track entitled “Separate Lives”.

You cannot go wrong with purchasing this album. It is one of those albums that you will like more and more with each and every spin. Slightly heavier would have been nice but you cannot complain about anything on here. One of the best releases of 2008.
