ANVIL
INTERVIEW AND PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJALA
Anvil is a Canadian heavy metal band formed originally in Toronto in mid 70’s. Anvil’s debut album HARD’N HEAVY was released in 1979 followed by classic METAL ON METAL in 1982 which is their most successful album to date. They have released fourteen studio albums, including the latest JUGGERNAUT OF JUSTICE (2011). Although Anvil was never a big commercial success they have been cited as having influenced many notable heavy metal groups like Metallica and Anthrax. In 2008 Anvil was the subject of documentary film ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL. Upon its release, the film garnered critical acclaim from many major publications, and has since brought the band renewed recognition, including opening slot with AC/DC’s on their BLACK ICE tour. The band has also done appearances at many major heavy metal festivals, including Download, Swedenrock and Loud Park. Anvil is back and when the band visited in Finland on last August to play in Porisphere festival it was time to sit down with bands founding member Lips and Robb Reiner and discuss about various Anvil topics. DAVE MENIKETTI
INTERVIEW AND PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJALA
U.S. hard rock band Y&T was originally formed in San Francisco in early 70’s. The band soon earned a good reputation as a great live band and their self-titled debut was released in 1976. In year 1981 Y&T got its change when they got signed by major A&M label. The band then released a string of strong albums including EARTHSHAKER, BLACK TIGER and MEANSTREAK. In 1987 they switched to John Kalodner’s Geffen Records and released two more studio albums: CONTAGIOUS and TEN before splitting up in 1991 after the release of “farewell” live album YESTERDAY AND TODAY LIVE. Unexpectedly the band got together in 1995 and released album MUSICALLY INCORRECT and then two years later ENDANGERED SPECIES followed. In 2001 band did several shows but it took one more year before the fulltime re-union took its place. FACEMELTER, Y&T’s first studio album in 13 years, was released in 2010. Bands original bassist and founding member Phil Kennemore sadly passed away in January of 2011 but even that didn’t stop Y&T to carry on. The band, leaded by another original and extra ordinary guitarist/vocalist Dave Meniketti, is still going on strong and it seems that this band has still lot to say in the future. The band opened up their six week European –tour in Helsinki on late September and then we had a pleasure to sit down with Meniketti himself and discuss about bands future as well as many other interesting topics. URIAH HEEP
20'th of September
Club Tavastia, HELSINKI
REVIEW AND PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJALA
Uriah Heep have always been a regular visitor to Finland and this current tour was no exception. The band released its 23’rd studio album titled INTO THE WILD last summer and since then the band has been actively supporting the album around the globe. It seems that there’s still plenty of demand for these U.K. veterans in Finland when both of the band's concerts, Helsinki and Tampere, were practically sold out in a short amount of time. It was time to catch up with the legendary Uriah Heep today. |
