“Symphonies of Slickness”
An Interview with Angtoria by MetalGeorge

Pictures Courtesy of Angtoria.com

Whilst it does seem that symphonic, female-fronted metal IS all the rage these days, what with the surprising explosion of Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, and Evanescence here in the States and all.  However, in Europe the genre is exploding with more and more new bands popping up everywhere.  Standing head and shoulders above them all (including most of their upper eschalon contemporaries), however, are Swedish-British powerhouse Angtoria. Featuring Abyssos’ Chris Renn and Cradle of Filth’s own Sarah Jezebel Deva, Angtoria provide all of the bombastic metal goodness with a emotional depth and melancholy missing from many happy-go-lucky Euro-metal bands currently peddling their wares.  It’s only a matter of time before Angtoria sweep fans of this style of their feet, so I figured it was time to dig up some information on this stellar rising talent! Watch this space!  Angtoria are gonna be huge!!

Mortal Sin : Interview with vocalist Mat Maurer and bassist Andy Eftichiou
Contributed by Arto Lehtinen
Wednesday, 09 February 2005

Mortal Sin is one of the first thrash metal bands emerging from Down Under in the mid 80’s and unleashed a furious debut album MAYHEMIC DESTRUCTION. The album has reached a real cult status amongst the die old school thrash metal freaks. In 1989 the second output FACE OF DESPAIR saw the light of day and the Australian thrashers embarked on an European tour by opening for Testament, Faith No More and toured in The States. The internal feuds within the band caused the departure of the vocalist and finally a real split up. Bassist Andy Eftichiou carried on by hiring a new line-up and put out REBELLIUS YOUTH, but Mortal Sin vanished to the Australian large desert. Despite the band unleashed REVOLUTION OF THE MIND, but it led nowhere. Until 2002/2003 Mat Maurer, Andy Efthichou and Wayne Campbell resurrected the old band by recruiting new guitarists to the rank. It was about time to approach the vocalist of Mortal Sin Mat Maurer and bassist Andy Efthichou to ask more about the history as well as other interesting subjects……

“Retribution Unleashed”
An Interview with Daniel Corchado of The Chasm

Interviewed by MetalGeorge

In the days where pre-processed, American-ized Death Metal is the latest flavour, Mexico’s The Chasm stand as a royally raised middle finger of old school metal pride.  With a sound that both hearkens back to such deathrash classics as “Seven Churches” as much as it does modern dark metal savagery, The Chasm and their latest and greatest longplayer, “The Spell of Retribution” are taking no prisoners and turning more than a few heads.  The band’s also gigging right now alongside Incantation, Arsis, and more, so  read on and acquaint yourself with one of the underground’s most underrated acts.

“It A’int Noise Pollution”
Interview with Calmsite drummer Jukka Penttinen

Interviewed by MetalGeorge
Thanks to www.calmsite.com
for promo pics!

Careening down the metal highway, Finland’s booze-addled rock ‘n rollers Calmsite have release their debut full length, “The Erector” via the American Oak Knoll Productions.  With a high energy sound that rides the line between Melodic Death and down home Hard Rock (think Gandalf’s “Rock Hell” meets Sweden’s Demons of Dirt), “The Erector” is a surprisingly fresh and exciting listen.  With the band’s up-tempo riffing and driving backbeat (complete with cowbell!), Calmsite are poised to make a mark.  With a new album on the way via Finland’s up and coming Firebox Records (licensed in the States via Oak Knoll), thing’s only look better for these Finnish bastards.  Though this is merely a short update on the band’s affairs, the fact that Calmsite is still an as-of-yet unknown band on these shores should make this little chat a worthwhile peek into a band that is beginning to make a name for themselves.

Interview and photos by Marko Syrjälä

Former model Doro Pecsh formed a band Warlock in the early eighties and together they reached a great success worldwide until they called it quits by 1988, as Pesch launched a solo career. She has just released her new album called “Classic Diamonds” and now after seventeen years she finally returned to play in Finland. This interview was done right before their show in Helsinki last November.

Dark Tranquillity Guitarist, Niklas Sundin

Interviewed by Anders Sandvall
Thanks to Jenny Walroth at Century Media Sweden for help with the interview.
Thanks to Century Media for promo pictures of the band.

Here is an interview with Niklas Sundin, guitarist for Gothenburg Sweden-based Dark Tranquillity. DT have recently released their new album CHARACTER and I had the opportunity to interview Niklas about DT (who celebrates 16 years in the business) and about the new album. At the moment, CHARACTER is at the third place on the list of most selling albums in Sweden right now...it also lies at the top position on the hard rock chart of most sold metal albums in Sweden.
