Iron Maiden: Maiden England Tour with Alice Cooper - Prudential Center, New Jersey July 2 2012

Review and pics by Infamousbutcher

Iron Maiden is at it again, recreating another classic tour from the 80s for the fans. In 2005, Maiden did the Eddie Rips Up The World Tour, focusing on their first four albums. Then in 2008, they focused on the 80s and called the tour Somewhere Back in Time. Now in 2012 Maiden is doing the Maiden England Tour, emulating the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son tour from 1988. I love this kind of stuff, reliving the old glory days when you first discovered a band; like when Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax revisited the Clash of the Titans tour in 2010. As an added bonus, shock rock living legend Alice Cooper is opening for Maiden on this tour! Are you kidding me? How f&^king awesome is that?!?

L.A. GUNS - vocalist Phil Lewis

vocalist Phil Lewis

L.A. Guns are one of the true originals of the 80’s Sunset Strip’s hair metal scene. The band was formed in 1983 by guitarist Tracii Guns but it took several years and line-up changes before the classic line up of Guns, vocalist Phil Lewis, drummer Steve Riley, bassist Kelly Nickels and guitarist Mick Cripps was born. The albums: L.A. GUNS, COCKED AND LOADED and HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES were highly successful but the 90’s proved to be a difficult time for L.A. Guns. Riley left the band in 1992 and Lewis, Cripps and Nickels departures followed in 1995 after the unsuccessful VICIOUS CIRCLE album. Guns then continued to tour and record under L.A. Guns names whereas Lewis focused on other things like a solo album and various band projects including Filthy Lucre and Liberators. The classic line-up was put together again in 1999. The band released re-recorded versions of the first two L.A. Guns albums and a new studio album MAN ON THE MOON was released in 2001. WAKING THE DEAD followed in 2002 and although the album was a critical success, Tracii Guns decided to quit with the band and concentrate on his new band project titled Brides of Destruction. Despite all the difficulties, the band lost their record deal and a tour with Alice Cooper; they decided to carry on with a new guitar player Stacey Blades (ex –Roxx Gang). The new line-up released album TALES FROM THE STRIP in 2005. Since then the band has remained active and a touring act, they have released a pair of covers albums and a live album LOUD AND DANGEROUS. Tracii Guns in turn formed his own version of L.A. Guns and for years there were confusingly two bands touring under the same name. However, last July Tracii announced that he’s done with his version and will start a new project instead. L.A. Guns which now consists of Lewis, Riley, Blades and bassist Scotty Griffin released its new studio album HOLLYWOOD FOREVER on last June. The band returned in Finland for a four date tour in late July (their first time here since 1991). In Helsinki, we had the pleasure to sit down with Mr. Lewis and discuss about various topics including HOLLYWOOD FOREVER, L.A. Guns history, Lewis’s other projects and also about his current relationship with some of his old band mates… Read on!!

Axel Rudi Pell is a German melodic metal guitarist. Axel started off with the band Steeler in 1984 before leaving to start his solo career in 1989. During the years his band has included many well- known musicians like vocalists Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie Malmsteen Talisman, Journey), Rob Rock (Driver, Impellitteri) and drummer Jorg Michael (Stratovarius, Running Wild).  However, today the band consists of Pell, vocalist Johnny Gioeli, bassist Volker Krawzak, keyboardist Ferdy Doernberg and drummer Mike Terrana. This line up has been stabile since 1998. The band has released altogether fifteen studio albums and the latest CIRCLE OF THE OATH came out on the 23rd, March 2012. In June 2012, Pell returned once again in Swedenrock; this was the third time here since 2004. This time we finally had a pleasure to sit down with the man himself and discuss various topics including the past, the future, the Steeler years, as well as other interesting topics ….. Read on!

SLAUGHTER - Bassist Dana Strum
Written by Marko Syrjala
July 31, 2012

Slaughter is hard rock / glam metal band that was formed late 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada by former Vinnie Vincent Invasion members - vocalist Mark Slaughter and bassist Dana Strum.  The original lineup was completed by guitarist Tim Kelly and drummer Blas Elias. The band reached stardom in 1990 with their first album STICK IT TO YA which went to double platinum in the United States. The album included hit singles "Up All Night", "Spend My Life" and "Fly to the Angels" which all received heavy radio and MTV rotation. The sophomore album WILD LIFE followed in 1992 and it was another successful release by the band.  They released two more albums FEAR NO EVIL (1995) and REVOLUTION (1997) but the changes in the music business and trends in mid 90’s caused Slaughter to slowly lose popularity. The big tragedy struck in 1998 when guitarist Kelly was killed in an auto accident in the Arizona desert. Jeff Blando joined the band in 1999 and the album BACK TO REALITY was released later on that same year. Although Slaughter has not in the headlines lately, they have remained a steady act. The band still tours, mostly in the USA, and in June 2012 they finally came over to Europe. The band performed at the  Sweden Rock festival, and yes, this was Slaughter’s first ever show on this continent. In Sweden, I sat down with bassist Dana Strum and we discussed the bands future, the old days, working with Vince Neil, placing people in bands, and of course about his colorful past with Vinnie Vincent. Mark Slaughter and Jeff Blando were also present and they both gave some comments on various things. Read on!!!
